Mountain Smith??

Has anyone played with/seen or used any of the Mountain Smith equipment? Never heard of them until this weekend, my buddy really liked my SL3 tent, but Go Lite going out of business, no more on their site. He found this online...Looks like a nice alter to the Go lite SL2 they had. They also have a 6100 internal on there as well....

I've had one of their lumbar packs for many years. Tough as nails and very reliable. Mountain Smith has a great reputation for designing innovative and useful equipment. That 2 man tent looks like a nice, light weight shelter for the sheep hunters or if you wanted to have a spike camp available without lots of weight to carry around all day.

Mountain Smith founder, Patrick Smith, also owns Kifaru where his expertise appears in many packs and excellent tipis type tents of high quality. I own three of his tents.

Ditto here. I've got a Mountainsmith day pack that's probably 10 years old and going strong, as well as a lumbar pack and a dog pack. Like their packs, haven't tried their tents.

I've got a Mountainsmith Morrison 2 person tent that I use as a part of my job. (USFWS/Education Specialist/EE camps in remote areas on the refuge) Also, we've got a couple of 4 person models we use for kids that attend our camps. We've only had them for a couple of summers but no issues yet; they seem decent enough. Simple set-up (2 poles) which is why I picked them out. We sometimes have to pitch camp in the dark or in a hurry (rain) and I want it as simple for the kids as possible. On a personal level I own a Cabela's Guide model. I'm not saying I'd pick a Mountainsmith over it or that it's the tent I'd take on a trip down the peninsula but for the money I've been happy with them.

Thanks guys, I'm kind of thinking about picking up the 2 man tarp shelter they have. I like going "sans" floor, it's not much lighter than my SL3, but I think that it being a little lower, it may buck the wind a little better. It's usually just me and the dog, so a 2 man is fine.

I view Mountain Smith as a good value line. Their products are usually inexpensive but fairly well built. I have one of their 0 degree down bags that weighs less than 3 pounds and has a ton of loft. I also just bought this Mountain LT shelter on a whim.

In addition to the Mountain LT I also own an SL3 and an Integral Designs SilShelter which is a very similar design to the Mountain LT. The SilShelter is half the weight of the Mountain LT at 1 pound, but it's much smaller and the SilNylon is very thin. I carry it in my hunting daypack as a siwash shelter and am reluctant to use it for mundane overnighters.

The Mountain LT material seems durable and reminds me of what you would find on an inexpensive tent fly, I don't see any problems with the stitching and the inner seams are sealed. The included guylines are thick for an ultralight shelter and seem "cheap", I will be replacing those along with the cheap aluminum stakes that are included. I have not set this shelter up yet, so I can't comment on the performance. I did weith it and it is right at advertized weight. 31 oz. The one thing that I noticed is that it packs pretty large. It is very tight in the stuff sack that it comes with. It's about the same size packed as the SL3. Anyway, like I said, I bought it on a whim and it seems like it's worth the 100 bucks that it cost.
