It's been years since I've been to Seldovia...probably 15...but I'm thinking of flying over there with my wife to explore, maybe do a little fishing, and bike around the surrounding area. I know that there are some unimproved roads/trails leading out of Seldovia, but I don't know any specifics. Can anyone give some guidance here? What are the trails like, how long, favorites, etc? Thanks!

Seldovia bike riding

I used to own a cabin about 8 miles out the Jakalof Bay Road and did some bike riding past Jakalof Bay years ago. The Seldovia Natives have done some logging in the last few years, so the road may have some improvements on it, but I'm not sure. The bridge at the bottom of the hill, before the climb towards Red Mountain, was out for many years and you had to lug your bike across the creek.

Our neighbors in Kasistna Bay, Tony & Mary Jane Lastufka, run a tent & breakfast right there on the beach, have bikes, and their accomodations are very cool. They'll know about the current state of the road south.

They are probably still in Hawaii where they go between tourist seasons, but you can call, leave a message, and I'm sure they'll get back to you.
