Moose hunt DM771 in unit 20A

Just wondering if any that has hunted this area would like to share some info or insite. I have never hunted that area but I drew the DM771 Permit.
Looks like about a 14-20 mile ride in on rex trail. I plan on spending 12-15 days in the woods in hopes of getting my first moose. Any info or advice would be very helpful.

He has an argo and I have a 4 wheeler
Is it possible by 4 wheeler?

Good luck running that trail. It's not for the stock or even slightly modified ATV. It eats wheelers each year. I hear the water is very high again this year too. Sucks that trail has become so bad over the years

I think Argos need to get a permit because of the weight limit on the trail now.

That trail is not for the faint of heart. Make sure you are prepared to winch and winch some more..... I haven't been out it this year but, I have hunted it a lot over the last 4-5 years and every year it gets worse.

Here's a "decent" section from last year. At least I had some place to winch to.....


Of course, breaking an axle didn't help......

There were sections last year I wished I had a canoe instead of a wheeler and there has been plenty of rain again this year.

I've had lots of fun on the Rex but it is definitely a tough trail to hunt and if the big track rigs go in there the trail will disappear into a giant hole you won't get a wheeler through....

I took a friend out the Rex Trail last fall. We both said never again and we grew up 4 wheeling. He got stuck a couple of times getting into camp which was this side of the Totatlanika River. A lot of folks stopped at the Totat as did we because we felt it was too risky to cross. We both got stuck countless times on the trip back out because we were heavy with a moose and because the trail gets augured out more with the passing of every machine. There were times when we would winch our self out and then get stuck 50 feet later. His winch finally died so I had to winch and pull both of us. If you break something and have to go and get parts it will be a small nightmare. We didn't break anything. We each had 26" mud tires. If you go bring a snatch block to double your winching power, extra shackles to connect to tow straps, extra tow straps, shovel, engine oil, coolant, anything little thing that you can think of to save your butt. We wore HD rubber rain gear, hip boots, and heavy rubber gloves and we were pretty much covered in mud. Be sure to go through your machine from top to bottom before you go. Be prepared for mud like you may have never seen before and good luck!

My last run out there was the same...... I think I must have winched in some sections for nearly a mile...... 50' at a time... solo..... That was a long trip.
