Man, verrrry tempting. I've been using my same 2-man mountain tent for close to 15 years now. It might be time to replace it. I've been looking pretty hard at the Go-Lite teepee style shelters, but I might need this as well. A little heavier than I'd like, but there's something to be said for 4-season, bombproof shelters...even in August.

And once you pitch a tent where the inner goes up with the outer you'll never go back to the ol' tent/rainfly. Just slip the poles in the outer tent a presto! My Hilleberg spoiled me on that.

Dunno where the pics went, but I did a review of this tent.

It is a superb abode for wet country (it was designed for the UK and it's soggy country) but lacks in size for two people. I measured the foot area on mine and it was 28"..simply too small for two users.

For one occupant it is a bit hefty weight-wise, but is a fantastic option for hard country and long hunts in places like the Mistys.

Lets let everyone try to guess what the first two are. At least for a day or so I got these pics of the net, not my tents. Clue, they are both the same model Hilly. The third pic, the red tent is the Jannu. How long have you had the Staika and how do you like it? I had a hard time deciding between the Staika, Jannu or Tarra. I bought the Tarra a few years ago, I love it. I kind think I'd been happy with any of them.

My guess would be the allak under the snow...
I'm 6 ft 3 so I chose the staika for the larger interior space...
Vestibules are good sized. It pitches symmetrical so it doesn't
matter which way the wind is blowing when you set it up...
Tent is also totally free standing without pegs...not a big deal...
i bought it too late to test, but when this weather moderates
I'll be setting it up in the snow for a look.

I ended up with a Exped Venus II for a two man 4 season shelter.Really happy with it has a lot of great features and it is an exoskeleton tent ,http://www.exped.com/exped/web/exped_homepage_na.nsf/
Now i'm looking for a light weight 1 person and dog 4 season . I like the Soulo and Rab the search goes on

Nope, not the Allak.

budman, ya. Great reasons to buy the Staika. I'm sure you'll love it. Being that it's a true free standing tent and the vestys are supported buy the poles, it should be pretty quiet in the wind. That Staika and my Tarra both have the thicker floor, heavier fabric and 10mm poles. I've had mine in some nasty wind and rain and the thing is a bunker. Yours will be the same. The vestibules on the Tarra do flap some but I like the size of them and the low height of the tent. It sat here full exposed for 5 days in high wind no prob.

Nope, I don't know anything about em but try a search or start a new thread asking about it. I bet someone around knows about em. I'm not sold on the ultralite shelters for Alaska even in summer. I'd rather pack a couple more lbs for more robust tent.

I've been in 6+ inches of wet heavy snow on the 4th of July at Paxson lodge. I'd hate to have been at 6000 in the AK range that day with an ultralite tarp tent like this one. I think a tipi style would be better.
