It was -41 at my house last night, its -12 at my house right now. They have been predicting weather near -35 for the highs and -40 to -50 at night for the entire week. It has warmed up 16 degrees in the last hour and a half here at the house and theres no prediction of this warm up we're seeing right now. The skies are clear and the wind aint blowing (Chinook) , what the heck is going on?

Welcome to Alaska, your not in Kansas anymore! :D

Oh I am not new to interior Alaska, but usually when the bottom drops out like it has the last few days it doesn't warm up like this....til the bottom comes back and that aint predicted at this time. This is weird as heck, though I aint complaining!...grin

first winter here eh?

Nope not even close, its my 10th winter here in the interior. But I have never seen clear skies, no wind and have the temps go back and forth 20+ degrees throughout the day, unless weather was coming or going. Its back up to -10 here at the house in the Pole, was -29 just 20 minutes ago in Fairbanks when I left town. This is some stange shiznit!

The high was -47 here today

The high was -47 here today

Just after posting on the other temp thread this morn we had a nasty stovepipe fire. Ended up getting out on trail later than expected after dealing with that and taking apart and cleaning all the pipe. Was -49 when I returned, good day on the trail, some cool stuff happens when it dips down to the -50 region.

Not sure if we will hear about it in the news, but wife was just outside and saw a falling star that ended up a huge flaming fireball, called me out just as it hit somewhere to the west and it was the freakiest thing I've ever seen, huge glow over where it hit (can't tell if it's ten miles off or fifty) and made a gigantic smoke trail that is now shifting in some breeze but must go up a good ten miles high.

Freaky stuff happenin', hope Brian is sipping a cold one for me!

I was at the grocery story getting milk and bread this morning when the cashier asked me how cold it was outside. I told her that it was a warm 38 below according to our truck temperature, but it's expected to get colder.
She said that it was going to be 50 below in Fairbanks tomorrow and to expect it to get to 60 below here in North Pole!

The boys are out ptarmigan hunting right now while the daughter and I are cleaning and trying to get the downstairs heated so that we can do some laundry.

We went into town today to try something new with our boiler system that we haven't tried yet. -Coal- We will see how that works instead of wood or oil.

My weather policy for my business is usually 40 below, so it looks like I'll have a good week of my own kids and no one elses for the week.

So... it's getting cold. We are preparing for it.
