From my couch to the fridge to grab a beer. If I could only teach the mutt to get it for me......

Someone had to say something, right? :proud:

Lol. I'm just curious. The Iditarod is dogs and people, but has anyone wanted to hike across a big chunk of alaska?

I don't use sticks to eat with since they invented silverware, so I don't walk much since they invented the horse, bicycle, car, boat and plane. I believe in using all the modern inventions.

Knowing some people who run the Crow Pass race in amazing times, and also knowing a few crazy sheep hunter's who hike long distances to get a trophy- I would imagine some folks have covered some very long distances. It seems that most of the people I personally know are goal oriented here- such as hiking in to a particular place to fish, or to a special place to hunt- versus just going for a long walkabout (other than the beautiful trails for a day or two hike).

We did the Los Anchorage Mayor's 1/2 marathon this morning. That seemed real long. The nice person running with a portable oxygen tank helped me the last mile or so. Wasn't too fast as some ravens mistook me for "road-kill" a couple of times.

Congratulations. ...I was thinking about a long walk to see the country. Nothing like forest gump. I know folks do long canoe floats.

Drats... Had I registered my age improperly, I would have been third place in the 90 or above category.

There was a guy who wrote a book some years back (can't remember the title or author) who backpacked the entire length of the pipeline in one summer, interesting read and would make a cool experience.

Forum member Buck Nelson has a DVD out called "Alone Across Alaska 1,000 miles of wilderness". Definitely worth watching.

Walking My Dog Jane... by Ned Rozell.

Buck Nelson did a couple very neat videos in the several hundred mile category

Andrew Skurka has done some epic trips as well.

Rowing to Latitude...by Jill Fredston.

Thanks for the heads up. I am thinking about a short 60 miles this summer.

15 miles in and 15 miles out both each with all our gear and a ram on our backs.....only 4 of it was on a trail and it too was steep.

Believe me.....it felt like 60......and I was even young and in shape...!!!

Remember my post last year about the trail out of Anderson heading west. I wonder if anyone recently has tried it and or walked it.
