Anyone care to share the "STAND N LINE" process to obtain a bait permit on the refuge. I have heard some stories, but is it first come first serve? Really don't want to set the spike tent out tonight for the entire wknd? Any info will be appriciated. Thanks, Justin

Whomever is first there sunday evening will start a sign up sheet, if you leave at all your name gets scratched. If you show up monday morning, you sign in on the sheet, you cant just show up and stand at the door and expect to be in front of the guys that camp out. I think setting up a tent today would be a bit extreme. I have hunted the refuge for 15yrs and never not got my spot. There are usually a hand full of guys that camp out sunday evening, but those are the guys that hunt the same spots every year and want to make sure they get thier spot. The most irritating thing about the whole deal is that out of all the people that show up to get a permit I see maybe 10 guys out there that hunt on a regular basis, and im out on that road 4-5 days a week so i know how many guys actually hunt. I think too many people go get the permits realize how much money, gas and effort it takes to maintain a site and dont bother doing it.

Ya you dont see many at all, over the years I have gotten to know pretty much all the guys that actually hunt their permits. The rest of the people dont end up hunting. Wich is fine for me less pressure. But it is irritating to lose your regular spot to a newbie that doesnt end up hunting. Hasnt happened to me yet but i know a few guys it has happened to.

Thanks

Thanks

I heard about a sign in sheet, but wasn't sure how it all worked out. Been baiting since 1996, so I know the dedication it takes. Just moved to Kenai in 2008 & have to give up my old spot up North due to the cost of fuel. Time for something a few hundred miles closer. Thanks for the info everyone.

My uncle and I usually camp up there on Sunday every year. He's usually number one except for last year and I've been in the top 5 every year I've done it. He drove up there to check it out last night (Saturday) and there were 12 people already signed up!!! The amount of people baiting this year is rediculous. Probably due to the fact that after july 1st you can shoot 3 bears on top of the 2 bears for this regulatory year. And probably due to the fact that you can sell bear hides now! Can't believe it.
