legal Kanadians

Kanadians are now legal on Kodiak! one a day every day till the 22nd of January, also here are pintails, mallards gadwalls, grn wing teal, and widgions, I spoted 2 eurasian widgions yesterday, a handful show up every season, my buddy shot a eurasian one year, I saw it from the corner of my eye and noticed the rusty color and assumed it was a merganzer, but as he was plucking it I looked and saw it was widgion!

Lets here it for honkers recovering! I saw a Eurasian Widgion this year and the last time I saw one was in potato patch lake. To clarify the hunting season doesn't end till 22 january? Hmmm I might have to make a trip down to visit my GF over christmas and bring the old shotty along...

Unfortunatly its still closed on the roadsystem though. I had a few fly over me this season that were easy pickins, but of course for some reason F&G doesn't want them shot on the roadsystem.

Nice goose Kodiakcombo, boy one a day,down here they are a pest. We are allowed 8 per day the entire month of Sept. Then it drops down to 3 a day in my area for most of oct. nov. and dec.

first they showed up hanging way out on the outside of our villlage then they moved in, then we made some comments trying to have a season, seems the feds didnt want to have us take the "aleutian" goose which is a smaller version of the cnadian, well we fianly got a season and its sure is nice to take these boys they seemed to have wised up pretty quick! do you have any pointers dragon1681?

I've yet to kill a canada in 2 seasons of trying I've knocked feathers off loads of time but the **** things are armor plated. I'd say use decoys and lots of em.

I grew up in SO DAK and it's the same here in Delta Jct has it is in any other plus in the world. You have to hunt the X, if your not on the X you could have 1000 decoys and it won't mean squat.
I shot over 50 geese this fall and some days I was limited out in 5 minutes. But I'll be the first to tell you that it wasn't my calling or decoys that brought them into the field, it was scouting.......

roger that! a client told me they fly the same pattern, and that was true, then they wised up, another client told me to let the main flock pass and take the stragglers, this way the main flock would still fly the deadly route, sound familar? How about flags? I've yet to try em.

Flags work, however they seem to be less effective over water then on land, and they will wise up to those also. I do use flags alot I use what they call pole-kites and with the lesser canadas that we get threw delta they really like that movement. I have flaged them in after I shot a limit standing outside of my layout blind.
I mostly try to hunt the small flocks. Shooting the bigger flocks educates them and in my case here in the fall you can send the birds migrating prematurely.
