learn to trap

I am interisted in the trapping thing and was curious on where to start. I know you have to check your traps pretty regularly and i wanted to know if setting them up for the weekend is fine and then taking them down for the week is still effective. i go ice fishing up at big lake every weekend and did not know if i could find a spot to trap around the area and then fish for the day and then take them down at night since i only go once a week and liv ein anchorage. also where do i start reading to learn to trap any info is great thanks vance

Setting traps just for the day is not going to be effective at all. What you need to do is decide what you want to trap for and read the regs. Then try to find someone up there who is already trapping and ask to tag along for a season to learn the ways.

For starters, and for free, check www.trapperman.com, and the Alaska Trapping Forum. These are both trapping websites. You will need to join the AT forum to read it, but trapperman can be viewed without joining. You will find alot of good info on both those sites.
If you still want more info, I suggest subscribing to The Trapper and Predator Caller, and to Fur-Fish-Game magazines. Both carry trapping articles by real trappers.
Both the websites and the magazines will carry ads for places to buy trapping equipment, including instructional videos.
