Ladies Bows?

Hey ladies.

What do you shoot? Is there such a thing as a womens bow (besides color)? I see some companys offer bow designed for shorter draw lengths, is that the direction to go? My wife is only 5'2. Any suggestions?

contact jerry out at fletchers archery in wasilla. he has set my wife up with 2 bows now. The latest was the mathews switchback that he ordered with 50 lb limbs. That is a little heavy for some women. I know he has set some other women up with some other bows( some were the mathews mustang I believe) that are alot lighter. He has my son and wife whooping all over me at the range. I personally cannot teach a family member anything without getting frustrated but strangers I am fine with. Jerry has a knack for teaching them all. Plus you get a free lesson with a bow. We all shoot the trophy roidge drop zone rest. My son and I both have hand tremors and this rest has eliminated those issues. Might be all in my head but hey whatever works. Copper john dead nuts sights and gold tip carbons. P.M. me if you want some more info, I can tell you of some of the other bows he has set up. My wifes mathews is for hunting, but she also has a Martin target bow with all the pretty colors ( top limb is maroon metallic, bottom limb is royal blue matallic) She didn't like dragging that to the 3-d shoots. I found out the key for womens bows (at least I think) is to get one that is comfortable enough to shoot for extended periods and doesn't tire them out, and also long enough axle to axle to be forgiving so they don't get as frustrared. Plus don't forget the total weight of the bow. That tires them out too. Basically the same things as a guys bow except that when any of the above things starts bothering my wife she gets really frustrated. Hope some of this helps. P.s. My son is shooting a very nice hoyt from jerry's with a short draw and my daughter shoots a p.s.e. from jerry's also. He can work miracles on shortening draw lengths and getting to those in between weights. My daughter is a lanky beanpole type and sorta weak when he started working with her and was able too set her up perfect. (she's 9, was seven when he started working with her)

my bride shoots an outback, just like myself. one benefit is our bows are identical except for pounds pulled. spare parts are simple (strings, cables, sight pins, etc.) if you ever blow a string in the field, you have a twin to figure out the string cable routing, esp on these new complex (to me anyway) bows.
she loves it and i'm proud to have a spouse that enjoys what i love.

Try a Hoyt Rintec out. This is an awesome shooting smaller bow with all of the features of the higher priced larger bows.

Fletchers

Jerry gave lessons to my wife, kids and I last year. He set up all our bows and does have a knack for working with people. I was surprised with his patience with kids and how well he works with them. Scott has now purchased Fletchers but Jerry is still around from time to time. Last I knew he was still doing lessons. Scott does a pretty good job although he has some big shoes to fill in Jerry's absence.

my wife's shooting an older XI Prodigy, when she does shoot. I also bought her a extremely good looking recurve. Both gather dust unfortunatly though I doubt you'll pry them from her dead hands! She bought the wheels in MN at my old stomping grounds. The recurve was made by a professional bowbuilder friend of mine.

Size is all relative. Take her to a shop and get her shooting, they'll find something that fits her whever you may go.

The Hoyt Selena is specifically designed for women. It is a great bow! As far as the fastest smoothest bow, it would have to be the Bowtech equalizer. My wife loves the Equalizer, she is 5'4" and has a 23" drawlength.
