I have two of the Piranta Tracer knives, one of which I use every day at work and one is with my hunting gear. The screws holding the belt clip on kept coming loose. I lost a belt clip. No real big deal, but this is the first knife I've owned that I like the belt clip idea.

I talked to Havalon about the problem and asked them what size the allen wrench is to keep the screws tightened. A few days later I got a couple of belt clips and quite a few screws with a letter telling me that if I have any other problems with their knives I can send it back to them and they would replace it if it was defective.

Too many times I've dealt with companies who have half of the customer service equation. They have a customer and are missing the service. Havalon's customer service is as good as their product.

Huh,..might have been a fluke, but I lost two screws on mine that hold the two halves of the knife together..I called them to order another knife and some blades and asked them if they could send a couple new screws..

First they wanted me to send my knife to them to be fixed (???), then when i told her i needed the knife (trapping season), she said they would throw some screws in the box for me...when I got the box..no screws.

No biggy but was not impressed overall...there's the ying to your yang, I guess..

I think we have a winner with that idea. I've heard this song and dance before and the problem seems to be with those who wear them on a regular basis using the clip. Those that don't like myself don't have a problem.

Hmmm, IDK, mine stays in my skinning shed 24/7. The clip fell off first and i didnt care since i dont carry it. I just noticed it was getting sloppy and saw that the other screws had come out too....

Dont get me wrong, I love these knives for furbearer skinning. I probably wont use it much for moose field butchering however...

I'm just saying to keep an eye on it or loctite the screws like TWB said....rather than have the knife come apart on you in the field.

FWIW, Scheffield makes a badass skinner with swapable blades and a stainless body.

Havalon Dealer

Is there a dealer locally where I can look at these? Haven't used one but I like what I see and want to give them a try. Would just prefer to handle one first.

Contiguous road system of Alaska. Not mail order.
Barneys has em in ANC, the archery shop in the valley has em. I am not sure if the archers den carries them in ER. But one of those should get you done. Definately go w/ the orange handled version, the black/grey one vanishes in the shale and scree slopes!!!!!
