Kodiak half day charter/guide recommendation

I will be in Kodiak next weekend, getting in Saturday early and leaving Monday at 5 in the afternoon. I previously had a fly out float booked with my buddy and his kid, but he's injured himself and now can't go. I have a hard time swallowing the cost of doing the fly out on my own with my 9 year old and half the fun and entertainment was going to be doing it with my buddy and his kid.

Anyway, the trip has now turned into a bit more of a "family trip" so the fishing is taking a bit of a back seat, but I talked up the silvers so much with my 9 year old that I'd still like to get him out. I'm hoping to find a half day charter or river guided trip for me and the 9 year old. I'm pretty open, but the emphasis is on junior getting into some fish.

I am all ears if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations as to who to go with and whether or not to focus on fresh v. saltwater at this point. My gut says fresh given the time of year, but it is hard to find a guide that seems to do that sort of thing.

I can obviously hit the rivers on our own, but the kid isn't a great caster and will lose interest if I can't get into some action, which we all know can be hit or miss and can take a while to pin down if you aren't around a lot.

Thanks.

I have very limited experience in Kodiak. Esp freshwater. But most of the streams you fish there from the road system would barely be called a creek here. We fished the Buskin and pasgashak and a nine year old coukd easily wade and cross the streams in many places.

The locals can chime in for timing which should be ok.

Here's one of the deeper pools we found as an example if you have never been.

Look up Dake Schimdt in Kodiak, Memory makers. My 1st trip to Kodiak in 2009, I used him for a day to become familiar with the road system. I believe he has been there since 2005 and is knowledge about the area. Put me on 6 silvers at 1st light in maybe 30mins. We slayed them on Salonie and then proceeded to hit 5 more rivers during the day.

The end of the story is that we went out with Dake this weekend. Had a great time. Big recommendation from me for Dake. He was especially great with my 8 year old son. Thanks for the idea Col. F Rodder.

Glad to hear father & son had a good time. I do miss Kodiak and hope to make it back next year. Those silvers on the Shak get big!!
