I am looking into a 2008 deer hunt on Kodiak Island via a boat hunt. I've hunted over there in the past but never by a boat charter. I would like to take my father over there and I think because of his age it would be worth looking into one of the boat options.

Can anyone recommend any charters or vessels to check out, or give me any information based on experience? Ideally I'm looking for a 6-7 day hunt and would prefer to hunt the South part of the island. If we do the boat option I would like to go with no more than 5-6 hunters on the boat. I may even try to pull in some other friends/relatives and possibly charter the whole boat.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Yes, try Al Cratty out of Old Harbor. He has shown us a great time every trip. Vessel based hunting, moves often, and cares about the well being of the hunters and the animals.

I would recommend Alaska Coastal Marine Services. They have a large boat and do very well. They base the boat out of Akhiok and hunt Alitak bay, Deadman Bay, Moser Bay, Portage Bay, and all areas in between. Bring the shotgun for sea ducks, they are set up for that also. I've really enjoyed my hunts with them.

I have hunted with alaskaexcursion.com .
He has a great set up . I loved the fact that we had a warm place to sleep every night and all food was prepared by them.
We ate like kings.

There's a fella in the ADN offering 5 day hunts (vessel based) for $1300 per person. Don't know what part of the island though. Seems reasonable, but location could be everything.
