I'm trying to help a two friends plan a graduation trip for this summer. The kid's are out of school June 13. When might be a good time to do a trip for kings after that date. They plan to have a guide.
Thanks,
Mark

King timing

Much depends on where you want to fish. For the Kenai, I would pick the 3rd week of June or the last half of July for the peak time. For the Kasilof, Mid May through mid June or last half of July (if there is not a terminal fisher in place).

For Deep Creek, Ninilchik, or Anchor... check the regs but most open on Memorial day weekend and are open through much of June.

For salt in Cook Inlet... late may through mid June

Others can chime in on the Valley streams or Kodiak or Southeast

July 19-24 is the average peak of the second run Kenai kings. The second run fish generally run larger than the first run.

The underlining is for you guys who want to remind us that the largest king recorded was caught in May.

Mid July is the time to fish for Kenai Kings. Also the Sockeye salmon fishing should be in full swing providing a good opportunity to load up on some fillets to take home.
