Just got my Lynx back.

long wait, specially for a smaller critter...i think the mount looks ok, but who cares what i think...do you like it? hopefully so. cats for some reason seem to be tougher for taxi's from what i've seen...seems like guys that specialize in smaller critters and birds do such mounts a little better. not sure why, possibly they get less of them, or they study them less than there money making critters they do by the barrel full...anyway i hope you like it, as thats what matters when it comes to mounts...

I have a couple of buddies who are taxidermists and one in particular that loves to duck hunt. His duck mounts are not very good-the reason-he does not like mounting them. Larger animals make more money per hour invested and do not require near the fine detail work. A lot of taxidermists just either are not good at detail work or simply do not want to take the time to do it. There are taxidermists out there who will mount anything weather they really want to or not it’s about the money. Then you end up with mounts that just do not look right for one reason or another. There are few taxidermists who capture the spirit of a lynx; it is all in the head and the detail work required. The same can be said for mounts of our feathered friends many taxidermists mount ducks and geese but very, very few get it right. This is why it is imperative to shop for a taxidermist and look at pics of their previous work and decide if they are the right one for your trophy. I was just discussing a duck mount with a forum member last night, he did not care for the way the taxi positioned the duck-the details are right but he did not like the positioning-I disagree, I would love a mount of a duck preening its wing. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder sometimes and sometimes the taxi just plain failed.

Very nice mount. I had a badger mounted a few years back and It took just over two years to get it. I think some of the taxidermists are free spirits and do the work at there speed, and others are very busy because there good at what they do and are in demand because of that.

Your opinions are noted and i have a tuff skin, and I to think that the head looks a little off myself. That said it is the mount that I wanted, I didn't really want one with its teeth showing. I looked at a lot of pictures of mounted lynx and it seems that the ones done with the closed mouth just look a little strange. It is going high up on a wall so maybe it won’t be noticed as much. But truthfully I have yet to see the thing first hand, I have to wait till I make a trip to Wrangell to bring it home. This was the first Lynx trapped in the Juneau area in 20yrs so I figured I owed it a mount.

This tactic works!! Trust me, my musk ox POS is up high for just this reason.

I have to agree with an earlier poster, the face makes the lynx mount and few can do it correctly. On wolverines also, if the head isn't right, it doesn't look right, but that is par for the course on all creatures. As long as you are happy with it, that is all that matters. Would like a bigger picture though!
