We have all dealt with gunsmiths and some times you just have to wait your turn. Here in the midwest your patients gets tried, believe me!

I sent my Ruger 30-06 of to Jess 10 days ago to get it turned into a 338-06. I was just thinking last night that I should give him a call and make sure it got there. Well it not only got there but he rebored it and the mail man dropped it off at my house today! Thats fast! I can't wait to get some loads worked up!

Boy, that sounds like the good old days. Glad to hear it! I've got a beater 1886 with a bum bore I've considered having done, and he just might be the one. Were his rates reasonable?

He said $225 back when he sent it off, dang cheap if ya ask me.

Thanks. I quit following that thread when it turned into an ego grope.

$225 beats heck out of a rebarrel. My 86 is in 38-56 and the action is tight, even if the bore is on its last legs. Plenty of meat for a 40 or 45 cal, but the hard part is deciding.

Glad to hear his service is still as good as it was for me. My total turn around was 8 days so he's off a little I guess! ;-) I can't wait to hear how she shoots EKC. Keep us all posted.

Thanks. "but the hard part is deciding".

Isn't that the truth! I've got a few neat old guns that have been sitting untouched for along time just because I can't come together with myself on what to do with them! One of them is a dandy 1903 A3 Springfield that has been sporterized! So what do I do? I latch onto another one just like it for dirt cheap just last week. Now I got two of them to ponder about.....22 Cheetah? 220 Jaybird? 6MM-06? Some sort of way fast vermin snuffer for one of them....I know they burn barrels.....I don't care! They got more barrels!

Ah man, we'd be dangerous sitting down with a pot of coffee and scratch paper! ;)

I'm currently researching the 50-70, only because it was so highly regarded in its day, yet almost unseen today. Yeah, lots of folks would say "45-70" but that's so common it's drab.

No hope for us, is there?

Your right...no hope and it might be dangerous but it'd be a hoot!

Know what just dawned on me? Other than for the 50 BMG for target shooting and front stuffers for deer snuffing, I've never seen a 50 cal rifle. Nothin in these parts big enough to have call for one I reckon!

I've got a 50-140 Sharpes that's a wonder to behold, but a different beast than I envision in a 50 lever, even with the moderate power of standard 50-70 loadings. Of course, the Sharpes has a "shotgun" butt, while the 1886 has a crescent steel but. That should dim my any impulses to speed it up a little!
