Just wondering if anyone else has been catching a lot of jacks in Willow this year. In the past 3 weeks, I've probably caught between 8 & 10 while trout fishing. All in the 14"-16" range. There just seems (to me) to be an awful lot of them this year.

I have been catching maybe one per float trip this year, which is bit more than 'normal'.

If i hit 5 jacks in a day, I'd probably change my bead! :nyanya: There sure are a good number of spawning kings in that stretch which is great to see. I hit it yesterday and picked up one jack along the way. The pinks and chum are starting to dig in now....

To answer your question if it is good or bad………..there are 2 ideas here, one is it is a good sign if you encounter jacks (a lot of them) because it gives you an indication that there are a lot of fish in that age group. The second thought is that there is something wrong in the ocean to make the fish want to return before they should. Either way it is a crap shoot and neither is the better answer.

I saw a only a couple between the RR bridge and the highway this past Sunday. Doesn't appear they are showing up in good numbers just yet, at least not that high up in the system.
