Please post the date, location, and ice thickness when you get back from the field. If we keep this info rolling in a single thread, we'll all benefit from the info. If this idea works, maybe they'll sticky it for us.

I think he means the ice is 8" but could be the fish?

LOL! Ice was 8 inches and the fish was 18 inches. There were people actually driving full sized trucks out on th ice. The ice was groaning pretty bad as they drove on it.

Another thing we noticed is the turbidity level of the lake was somewhat elevated. Quartz is normally very clear. There is some type of photoplankton or algae or some type of sediment suspended in the water. I have read reports of other lakes having the same condition. I wonder what causes that this time of year?

When the lakes freeze, they go through a temperature inversion. In the summer, the warm water is at the surface and the cold water is at the bottom. Once their is ice overing the surface of the lake, the temperature gradient inverts so the warm water ends up at the bottom and the cold water at the surface. This process causes some altered currents, which can churn up all kinds of stuff.

Lake Clunie had 8" and offered up 6 trout and a kokanee in an hour.
Nothing over 12 inches.
Water was crystal clear.
Here's a sample...it's what's for dinner.
