I always thought that fishing from inside an igloo would be one of the best places to ice fish from. It's basically the least expensive ice shanty build there is, it just takes the time to build it. I finally got my chance to build one and had the right conditions and the time to do it. The best part is I don't have to remove it from the lake at the end of the season. How many of you all have wondered how fishing in an igloo would work? Here is how it went for us!

That's awesome I glad you guys had a great time!!! did you catch anything?....my sons and I will probably try to camp in it this week sometime and fish through the night for another video. We hope it stays up through the month anyhow...I might try to build one every year now as it was a blast for my kids. Long lake certainly has the right conditions for making igloos. Maybe we'll see you guys at the lake some day.

We didn’t. Seems the fishing has gotten progressively slower out there over the last month, or so. Even with the wind on Sunday, we were one of about 20 groups out there. I think it’s just getting fished really hard and we’re seeing the results. I haven’t seen fishing better than some of the lakes here in Palmer/Wasilla in the last 4-5 trips up so we’ll probably stick with these down here where the bite has been turning on as of late. Can’t get the family on board to spend an hour on the road each way to catch a handful of fish when we can drive less than ten minutes and have limits.

Although, the lakes down here don’t have igloos and that was a hit with the kids, so who knows.

What an awesome idea! I've built and slept in igloos before but never used them as an ice shanty. They sure are a lot warmer and once they are frozen they are very strong so not likely to get blown over by the wind. The one down side is they will start to sag and shrink in size. You will probably notice this in a couple weeks. But you made it very tall so it should last you for a while at least. What a good skill to teach your kids too!

it is sagging pretty bad already unfortunately

Well I gotta say for your first igloo you did an excellent job! I've built a few igloos in the past and lots of snow shelters and I used to do a lot of winter camping when I was younger. I sure enjoyed watching that video and I also watched your video of building the igloo and I enjoyed them both. Brought back lots of memories of when my kids were younger. I'm extremely jealous because I really miss those days when my kids were younger. Those were some of the happiest days of my life when I had little kiddos around the house. I took my kids everywhere I went and we did lots of cool outdoor adventures together. Man, I hope you cherish those moments because before you know it they will be teenagers and then they all grow up into adults really fast.
