guides and danger

Kinda looked to me like the guide might have pushed the hunter back or at least told him to get back... I don't know. I do know that that is the type of guy I want to hunt with in that scenario... The guide, that is.
.

I have guided kayak tours in the South Pacific and I do not of any decent guide who does not put him or herself inbetween danger and the their clients. The guides and the client did exactly the right thing. Yo don't want a nervous greenie in front when your life is on the line.

Plus the guide has the knowledge to know when to take that final action to resolve the issue. If it were me I doubt I would have waited to 6 yards before shooting. After all I have weak bowels.

That's the reason

That's the reason

I know a lot of non-res complain about having to hire a guide but that footage there is exactly why. The hunter would have been bear scat if that guide did not do what he did. I'm not saying all non-res would react the same way but I think alot would.

FullKurl: I think the show is "Cabela's Ultimate Adventures. They discountiuned the "Memories in the Field" show 2 seasons ago. I actually had a video on memories in the field where I shot a bear at 8 yards. The Knives Of Alaska bear charge was on their new program and their old Cabela's Outdoor Journal or something like that.

I think this was Cabelas "Memories in the Field" with Dave Watson. They probably have a website and may have a link to order various episodes...This one is worth having in a video library.
The guide was affiliated with "Alaska Knives" or something to that affect? Ring a bell with anybody?

I post this on the other thread but this is more of a DLP to me with a different outcome. I know it's been shown before but since we are revisiting this I think that it's appropriate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMbnmLLnsfw&feature=related I stated in the other thread, I still don't think that he was shooting to miss intentionally. I know that I wouldn't have, and I don't think anyone would say that was a bluff.

And you think an Alaska resident with 13 months residency on his or her first hunting trip would have the knowledge and fortitude to do the right thing? That hunter's 22 year old cheerleader sister who had never been outside of Anchorage since she got off the airplane and was a resident could have guided him and it would have been legal.

It isn't about safety...its about the money. I'm not saying that is bad, but please just admit it.

DSCF0990.jpg charles Allen the guide in the cabela's video is a great person. Two days after the DLP incident two friends and I flew into driftwood lodge.
Charles met us as we taxied right up to the main lodge. After everyone made introductions we listened as James and Charles relived their close encounter with BB sow. The Cabela's crew loaded up and departedto Cordoba in the same plane we arrived. We saw several BB's while fishing and waterfowl hunting during our 7 day stay. Charles owns the lodge and provides BB and moose hunts while having some of the best SE AK silver salmon fishing on the Tsiu river. Sorry if I bored anyone as these posts brought back some wonderful memories. View attachment 49277

The moose rack in the previous post is Cabela's hunter that scored with his bow. If you can find the original full link video. The moose hunt is almost funny when you witness the entire action. The hunter's first shot was too far back, actually in the flank. Charle's utterly shows disgust between first and second shot. Charles is the owner and CEO of Knives of Alaska and Diamond Blade knives. Hope you don't mind me sharing a couple additional photos.
