What's the best way to keep spiders away from houses or cabin? I've been using a DIY solution of soap, vinegar, water and mint essential oil. It doesn't work well and I'm tired of the webs and black spots. I don't have brush by cabin, basically it's gravel. Wondering what others are using.

Chickens would be fun if I lived there. I might have to try one of the commercial insecticides. Just not sure how harmful to people, pets and siding.

Talk to the extension service for help. They may not be very helpful they like spiders, they keep bug population down.

There something in the cabin there eating remove the food and there will be no reason for the spiders to stay.
I’m reading the instruction on a can of Buhach it kills several difference types of bugs but no mention of spiders. Before you leave fill the cabin with Buhach smoke to kill the bugs inside. You may also want to consider HOT SHOT a Bedbug powder. Also safe for human and animals.

The spiders are on the outside of the cabin. My covered porch, porch lights, outlet boxes and any place that has a spot to hide. It's just a mess to keep trying to clean up. Thanks for your responses, I'll take your suggestions and look into them. Maybe it's just in my area and I can ask a couple people that have places close by. I'd rather use something that can't harm me or my pets as long as it works.

Watched two different spiders hunting on the outside of my window screen this evening. At first one of them was stalking the other and they played slo-motion cat and mouse all over the screen for about an hour. Then the mosquitoes showed up and they each nabbed one in short order. It was pretty cool to observe.

I don't know of anything that will keep spiders away from a dwelling wholesale without making the place a systemically toxic EPA superfund site.

If you have respiratory problems or don't want it to accumulate in your lungs and lymph nodes be careful with Diatomaceous Earth, wear a mask when spreading. Also get the stuff that clearly says on it that it is safe for pets and animals...the amorphous non-crystalline is the good kind and the crystalline is the not as good kind and usually sold as insect killer. I use it in my chicken coop everytime I clean it, keeps the birds from getting mites or poultry lice.

At first I was interested in it to keep slugs at bay in the garden but as I did more research I became interested for its human benefits.

Kobuk: I spoke to a pest control company owner previously who recommended the sticky traps for spiders inside at remote sites. I don’t like chemicals for hurting things not intended, but spraying the outside perimeter helps.

So far it’s only an outside problem. Did he mention what he recommended for spraying the perimeter?

I don’t remember if he specified anything for outside, but Ortho Home Defense is what I use at my cabin. I like spiders for other pest control, but prefer they stay out of the cabin! I spray around the base/perimeter and it works pretty well.

Had really good results with Bayer's Delta Dust on inside common house spiders above a drop ceiling in the basement. Long lasting, waterproof, and relatively safe. Bellows type dusters work well but really mean it when they say a light touch to motivate the dust into corners as it's very fine powder.
