How do ya'll keep your bait on?

I seen people thread roe through the line. Ive also heard of using pantyhose to seal it in and keep it on the hook. I was trying to use some power bait today for trout and couldnt keep the crap on the hook. I was wondering if anyone of the fish guru's here had any advice.

good luck that stuff never stays on! LOL most king rigs come with an "egg" loop to hold the eggs on the line. If you are using power bait use it in lakes..........don't "whip" the rod when you cast. Wrong time to be using that stuff any way. And please be careful using that stuff, fish inhale that stuff, so the hook set will be deep and the fish could die if you are c/r fishing but if you are keeping what you catch no worries.

yeah it dont stay on for squat. I typically keep what I catch. Which has been nothing so no worries there. I can tie a king rig with an egg loop but wasnt sure how the roe holds together. Ive never really fished with bait before.

They make a super skinny thread specifically for keeping bait in place. I cant remember whats its called but you can find it at walmart, freddies, sportsmans etc. It comes in a little plastic tube and its really cheap and effective.

it's called stretchy string, most people use it for tying hearing or what not on to plugs. You could also use thread.

I've tried using the power bait also and had the same **** problem with it coming of the hook as soon as you cast it. The power bait as some have said, does cause a deeper bite and works well. At least for trout. Here's what I found that seems to work for this stuff. I take a pinch the size of a nickel or dime and then I kneed it for about a minute or so and this seems to harden or help solidify the bait. I then put it on the hook ( typically a bait holder type hook # 12 or 14) and give it a good squeeze and it seems to work a lot better. Not great but better...

Never tried and have never seen stretchy thread used on eggs before. Not saying it can't be done but the egg bumper loop not works fine for keeping eggs against the shank of the hook....stretchy thread is used for wrapping a sardine fillet on the bottom of a kwikfish lure.

That stretchy elastic thread can be used to tie herring fillets to plugs/spoons like Kenaibow said, and also to tie up spawn sacs (colored netting filled with eggs and tied into a small ball). This "sac" is then placed on hook, secured by the egg loop. I've also cured my eggs to where they are very rubbery and can be used right in the egg loop with no netting and it will last for several swings. As far as what someone said about power bait, it stays on the hook best when used with a small treble hook with the coil/spring shaft. Just have to make sure the regs allow that type of hook.
