Sounds similar to the loads I was shooting with the 310 gr hard cast Lee Bullets. I shot 19 gr in my 629 PD and dropped back to 18 in my PD due to sticky cases. I used Win Primers because I had a bunch.

The load isn't uncomfortable at all in my 629 Classic, but it does hurts in my 4" 329 PD.

I forgot to ask - what was the ambient temperature, and was the ammo at that temperature.

25 degrees F. and the ammo had been sitting out on the bench for 40 minutes.
This is part of my quest to find loads that shoot well in at least TWO of my 44 mag chambered shootin-irons. The chambers on both my 44 mag carbines are rather loose. So they limit how hot I am going.
I started out light and worked up to 19.5 grains and mag primers. But the 18.0 grain load with the WLP PRIMERS was a good load in two guns and the brass was not all stretched out of shape.

I NEED MORE 300 grain projectiles. I am down to the last few . I have some 310s but they do not have a gas check.

The Lee 6 cavity molds will crank out a lot of the 310 gr GC bullets in a hurry. Not so pretty unless you add tin, but they shoot OK.

Not sure if the gas checks are that important or not - I need to do some tests and find out.
