Can you educate us on reed selection for the 200 Opti's ? Specifically the Boysen versus the TDR reeds.

I'm swapping them soon and am leaning away from the Boysen's due to the reduced fuel economy. Will the TDR reeds lower the fuel economy as well? What about longevity? Where do you order the TDR's? I got ahold of a dealer in Texas but he didn't sound too confident on the phone discussing the 2.5L Opti. He suggested the 5 petal but in the 7 petal width, is he on the right track?
Any other reeds I should be looking at?

Thanksks

tjm, could you educate us on why you're replacing the reeds? Is this regular pm, a failure (like we saw photos some time back of someone's with chunks missing), or an upgrade?

Thank you.

I order TDR reeds from TDR direct. They were recomended to me by Jsre a mercy race engine builder, with much more mercy experience than I will ever have. Ihavent seen any I have installed fail. I have seen one boysen set fail. As gas as economy I have not seen a significant difference in economy of the TDR vs. Merc reeds, the med. Tension reed are similar in tension to the need reeds.

more or less it it just some PM...pulling the motor to change out the pump seal so I figure it is a good time to swap the reeds and plugs...the motor only has 100 hrs on it but I've seen several motors with damaged reeds so I'd rather not wait...I'll post some pics of the stock reeds once they are pulled, chances are they'll be fine but I'm changing them nonetheless...

...hey Akgravelpumper, you dig those reeds out of your shop yet? :)

Thanks TJM. I've never had a 2 stroke anything (sheltered life) and this spring was my first time in a jet boat so I don't have much of a reference. Thanks again for the demo. My comuter car has over 100K miles on it and it's only had fluids and filters changed in the motor. At 55MPH average (never more that 65 Wink Wink) it has over 1800 hours on it. Kind of spooky to read about 100 hours (two seasons) before working on a boat that cost 3X what the car did.
