-26 in the Golden Heart city this morning. I suppose my excitement for spring is tempered by my square tires.

It's been cold by Juneau standards here this week too, but, overall the winter was warm.

I was watching geese arriving in January - assumed they got down south and said, "screw this!" when they ran into the blizzards down there, and came home.

Then, on February 25 a pod of killer whales showed up in the channel - I remember that as being more of an April event.

I think Spring will be here sooner rather than later this year in spite of this last week.

My commute home used to upset me because it felt like I needed to go home and go to bed, now that the light is lingering I'm much more motivated to tackle responsibilities. I'm also much more cagey and sitting at a monitor is driving me bonkers. The only biological difference I'm seeing that shows spring approaching is the Bohemian Waxwings have shifted into more of the downtown Anchorage scene. They must have burned up most of their residential berry sources and now I can see and hear them frequenting the Urban Jungle. Sexy birds if you you take them time to look at them.
