Remember the guy in Cooper Landing that had all the turkeys and let them roam free? They were all over the place around the school. F&G kept waring him to keep them penned up but he wouldn't. I heard they finally nailed him with a big fine or something.

I don't recall the turkeys. I remember there were rabbits all over the place just north of Delta Jct some years ago. They were all along both side of the road when we drove down from Fairbanks to Pump Station 9. Haven't been back up that way in quite a while now.

I did surgery on a opossum about 15 years ago. Leroy the possum. Owned by a taxidermist in town. Leroy had a very large tumor in his abdomen that filled up over half his belly. He was a sweet little guy, and his taxidermist daddy loved him. He did not survive the surgery, unfortunately. Tumor was wrapped into too many important structures.

His daddy stuffed him. But he’s a taxidermist, so it took a year longer than it should have.

Well as I previously predicted the opossum was pregnant.
So now Homer has a bigger problem.
I sure hope all those people who were advocating to let the opossum live free are happy now!

If I lived in Homer I would want to blast one. They look like disgusting creatures.

I’m pretty sure it’s just the “Alaskan recipe” in general that gets the job done.
I still find the original San Francisco Stickyfingers recipe intriguing...that lady and crew cranked out some legendary brownies! Nowadays we're a little more knowledgeable and scientific about it, tho. But brownies aren't rocket science and my recipe's pretty easy...maybe there should be a brownie thread in the cooking forum...!

Kill the damned possums!

They are a very beneficial animal. They eat tons of ticks. Don't ever get rabies. Not gonna spray.
I didn't know we had a serious tick problem up here?
I mean I know they're starting to find a few here and there that hitch hiked their way up here on people's pets and whatnot. But, I don't think it's in any significant numbers where we need possums to clean them up for us.

Me too.
I'm halfway surprised that ADF&G hasn't put a bounty on these things.
If a guy could make a few hundred bucks per carcass it would certainly encourage people to hunt them down and bring them in.

Oh how I agree with this! I won’t say more then that because likely whatever I say will likely be misconstrued with some political agenda. But put it into perspective, look how much they (ADFG) complain and target pike (South Central AK). Granted I know that is a never ending issue on its own. But the point is, they are Both invasive species that disrupt the balance. If the possum gets a pass it will create problems.
