Grapes?

theres a greenhouse in kenai growing beautiful grapes in one of their greenhouses. i dont know what variety or what king of winter care they receive. im in homer, where the coastal climate is relatively mild. we are going to experiment with three varieties this year, all tested hardy to zone four at the university of minnesota, which is where most USDA cold-climate varietal testing is done. if all goes well we will be making our own wine in a few years!

The Manley Hot Springs greenhouse has an unreal grape vine or two growing. With grapes too.
Well, that is cool. At least two places here but inside greenhouses. I got six Niagara grapes from Home Depot and two started turning green in the package so I just put them in large pots. It sounds like I better keep them greenhoused. We'll see what happens.
Google "st lawrence nursery" they have many varieties of grapes that will grow outdoors here without any special care. The nursery specializes in cold hardy fruits nuts and tree's and all of their products see the same temps we get.

The year-round greenhouse in Soldotna that had grapes went out of business last year.
That's too bad it went out of business. There are varieties that are able to withstand -40 to -50 in the St Lawrence catalog. I am going to order a couple and try them. I will grow these in my green house and see how that goes.

if any of you want to chance growing SEEDLESS THOMPSON....RAISIN VARIETY; i have access to a bunch. they are my favorite eating grape. i picked these grape the 5th through 14th year of age for sustenince of my family. i just now recieved (thursay) 100 ea 24" sprouted cuttings approx 2 years old. i need about 50 for myself....i have 25 left to pass out. they cost me .$65 ea to buy.
shipping from Fresno to Prescott cost $30.00.
i will ship to someone up there for my orig purch cost and YOUR shipping costs. offer lasts 7 days.
let me know IF you want them....don't care to hear if you don't want them. we are talking about a favor here....not an argument over horticulture practices.

i would place in 2.5 inch pc tube, with some damp newspaper. not too wet, due to grapes being very susceptible to mildew, even in a hot california summer.
this time of year would be fine. i can put approx 5 cuttings in a 36 in L tube with glued fittings. i can put a couple small holes in it if transit isn't TOO long. completely sealed will be fine for several days, also. let me know....i still have a few extra.
