GPS

I have a Garmin eTrex Vista handheld and am totally satisfied. Not only with the product, but with the customer service! Had a failure, called tech support, noticed first of all, they were in the US and spoke English!, they repaired and updated the unit and sent it back very quickly. Had another failure, (now beyond warrantee) and they send a brand new unit.

I have since purchased other products from Garmin and will continue to use their products.

Back to the GPS, the handheld will get down to 19' error. Will not lock onto the WAAS satalites (not a Garmin issue), but it works great.

Good travels,

I use a Garmen GPS Sounder/plotter combo unit on my boat with their Blue Water memory chip and love it. It is WAAS enabled and I get WAAS every time I turn it on. Go for it!

I have the Gamin 498C...which is the GPS/map plotter and think it is great. I have made a couple of river runs where it showed me on land, instead of water, but I still find it an awesome unit. I think this is because the mapping up here in Alaska may be a bit outdated. When I moved the route to my computer, it showed it properly...so I know the coordinates were right.

I purchased the hardware that allows you to connect to a computer/laptop to download and or upload routes, waypoints, ect. I think that is a great feature!!

Cliffhanger, do you suppose that the difference in WAAS and no WAAS is the external antanna on your plotter? Of course the eTrex uses only an internal (however an external is available, I believe)? Are you able to get the WAAS in the Southcentral area?

Thanks
