I recently installed new ITP SS108 black wheels and 26" SwampLite tires (that actually measure out at 27") on my new King Quad. Well even with a big bore you notice enough change in the gearing that the machine doesn't feel like it used to. So whats the fix???? A clutch kit! I removed the belt and both the secondary and primary clutches, installed a new spring in my secondary and new roller weights in my primary, all this done in about an hour in my garage and cost me about $75 and the results are.......simply AWESOME! I could never do stuff like this with my Honda, big tires ribbed both the power and the gearing and you just did lots and lots of shifting to get around. In an hour in my garage I have essentially turned this thing into a monster and the performance is insane good! Modern technology is a beautiful thingh.

Cub, sounds....

Cub, sounds....

like you got yourself a pretty awesome machine! My dad will be looking to buy a new one next year. Either the new king quad you posted with the power steering or the Yamaha grizz. If I get one, would love to sit down with you and learn what you did!

Wouldn't be a problem Mike, its all way more intimidating than what it actually is. These continuously variable transmissions are the most user friendly systems there is and really require few specialty tools. Maintenance is cheap and easy as opposed to having to work on something like the internal driven auto trannies in some bikes, they break your wallet and require some extensive skill to be worked on. Anytime bud, let me know.

What kit did you go with, or did you just buy different fly weights and spring? I'm looking at the Heelclicker kit for my 6x6. The big tires killed a little bit of low end torque I'm looking to get back!

I used EPI components, went with the Yellow Secondary Spring and 18 gram weights. I also shimmed the Primary 1 mm, thats a trick I learned over at the NYROC forum, those guys are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to King Quads. You can go with a kit, just that most kits if your not messing with wet springs is really just the secondary spring and weights (depending on the bike) and buying the components is less expensive than buying the kit. If you want to do something similar PM me and I'll give you a hook up to get the stuff for a good price, no matter the quad.

I've re-worked the both clutches on my snowmachine (same basic system) and got some good performance results out of them. I was looking at the Heelclicker kit because of the fly weight design. Supposedly, the top end loss is not nearly as much as with other designs. A good pic of one of their designs - Heelclicker

I may have to look into just making up my own kit though....:)

That kit is totally different from mine, I dont have anything that resembles those pieces in my set up, so I cant say. I dont have the concerns about top end, it will still do 60+ mph with the bigger tires and I'll probably never go that fast.
