Just got word my in-law’s Barge the Portage Bay up in MainBay is now selling Gas, offering showers, has a Cafe and small store. Called my Sister in-law at Snug Harbor Seafood's in Soldotna to confirm they will offer services to anyone; and got permission to post here.

My son and I will be checking it out this weekend, would be nice to drop in for breakfast. Don’t know any more particulars; think they should take credit cards or cash. Only down side is during an opener would be a bear to maneuver in there; don't know were exactly they are anchored. This weekend the commercial guys have a 60 hour opener ending noon on Saturday so most deliveries should be completed by 2:00 in the afternoon.

I’m not sure how long the season will be for the Barge but if the recreational boaters utilize perhaps they will keep open a bit longer than the commercial season.

That is fantastic, I always thought a barge full of fuel with showers and a pizza oven would be a hell of a money maker. I will be sure to check it out if the nets are out of the water.

guess more nets will be getting wacked once word gets out about the fillin' station/convenience store open in MB. Be real nice when those guys go roaring by racing for the next set and the poor guys cleats get ripped out of the boat while he's trying to fuel up or get a snack !!

See if you can find out how much they will be charging for fuel? If st under about $5 it would be worth not packing any extra fuel! Not that I'd bring a can through the tunnel!

That's what I like about you Steve, always looking on the bright side; a true optimist all the way.

Jay i know whats going to happen, more gear will be run over and ruined and it will be the gillnetters fault. It got worse and worse every year after the tube was opened. Not the dark side or the bright side just a actual fact.

Is there a link or site that says when and where the commercial openings are? I went to the F&G site...and I'm sure it is there, somewhere...but I couldn't locate it.

Call Snug Harbor Seafoods and ask them about tender service, make sure to find out if they are going to sell to rec boats.

We filled up there with gas last week at $4.81 a gallon. They can't process credit cards so it was cash only. Very nice place to tie off to with huge fenders and excelent service. No problems from wakes what so ever.
