As people are starting to hit the salt, time for a new seasons set of fish and shrimp pics.

My boats still well and goodly encased in snow on the N side of the house, so I won't be posting pics anytime soon :banghead:

I'll start things out with my first catch of the season: April 17, 2012! Yes, there are some decent halibut inside Kachemak Bay already!!

I gather that mooching is for kings that are actively feeding? So does that mean it's not a good idea to try it for kings that are headed for the rivers this time of year?

It's easier to coax a non-feeding big king into biting while mooching a cut plug, than trolling with downriggers. If you want to be schooled up, start a thread in the saltwater forum and the moochers will chime in, so we don't hijack this one.

Linky for your reading pleasure.. Good on Caldwell for putting it online. http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?t=241079

Pulled this 75 pounder in today while trolling for kings in about 25 ft. of water. It sure wasn't easy lifting it off the bottom with my 7' Ugly Stik!

Ya know, that halibut I caught yesterday was pretty big, but this one dwarfs any halibut I've ever caught. I took this guy and his family out today and this was the first halibut he's ever hooked and reeled in by himself. There's no way to top something like that.

We had a pretty good day in Homer last Friday. We caught 3 kings, including my son's first ever. It was the biggest of the day, I estimated it to be 30-35lbs. I got one a little smaller, and my friends wife got a 15lb feeder. We also caught plenty of butt.
