fishing in prudhoe

well i know its not the right time of year to fish up there....being -30. i have been working up there for 3 years and am very upset with myself that i havent ever even tried to fish up there. being from southeast i have no idea what works for grayling... looking for a little help here.

If using a spinning rod #1, #2 and #3 spinners or small 1 1/2"- 2" spoons work great.
I like to use gold #2 and sometimes #3 Vibrax spinners if the fish are large.
I will usually use #2's though as the grayling inhale the smaller spinners and usually die.
For spoons my favorite is one we call a potato bug. It's a gold back with dark orange and black spotted Len Thompson.

If you're fly fishing any dark nymph will get 'em and if they are hitting on the surface pretty much any dark dry.
Sometimes you may need to experiment as they can be picky at times.

If you can get to the west dock, try for char right off the beach. 25 years ago I used to catch some monsters and the cooks and I would split them for dinner.

thanks for all the input!! i actually worked out at westdock for the last few years, just got a new job but i will hopefully be able to drive out there.

Try #3 or 4 vibrexs or pickies(?), actually any lure would do. Try a slow to medium retrieve.

It is a thicker and heavier spoon made by Eppinger (The Daredevil people).
Actually they have 3 different casting spoons in the rocket (they spell it Rok't) series.
Rok't Imp 3/4 oz and 2 1/4"
Rok't Devlet 1 1/4 oz and 2 1/2"
Rok't Darecevil 1 1/2 oz and 3 1/8"

The Rok't Devlet is the version I use.

Arctic char run late June through freeze-up... On the coast and mouths of the rivers early peak around the 4th of July... You can find them throughout the summer in various rivers all along the north side of the Brooks along with Grayling. Numerous spots for lake trout up there also.
