Fish and Game screw up again

I just received an email from F&G saying there was a data processing error for the Tier II permits and now I have lost my musk ox tag that was awarded to me when the results came out last friday. This really makes me wonder what the hell is going on with these people!!! I am MAD!!!!

I'm writing to inform you that permit results announced last week for Tier II subsistence hunts have been nullified due to a data processing error. The error has subsequently been corrected and all Tier II applications properly scored. The valid, updated Tier II hunt results are now available on the Alaska Department of Fish and Game webpage at http://www.drawresults.adfg.alaska.gov/DrawResults/
The error, which compromised scoring for Tier II hunt applications only, was discovered after the announcement of last week's draw, Tier I/II and community subsistence harvest permit results. Only Tier II hunt applications were affected; draw, Tier I, and community subsistence harvest results were not impacted.
The department regrets any confusion or inconvenience this error has created for you. Please know that we are taking action to ensure similar issues do not occur in the administration of future hunts.
Thank you for your patience and again, we apologize for the error.

ADFG generally does a pretty good job managing wildlife and handling this process. They made a mistake...that sucks...now drive on.

It's like when you're playing poker and you look down at pocket aces only to see that the dealer accidentally screwed up the deal ahead of you. So you never really should have had those aces in the first place, but for a minute you were thinking ahead to the pile of chips that was about to head your way.

It sure sucks to think you had it though. Maybe karma will give you the tag next year?

Tags don't get mailed out until later in the season. I doubt anybody has their tag by now, even the Kodiak bear tag holders.

Exactly, and besides that, the one thing I do remember learning in high school business law class was that "ignorance is no excuse for the law"...

The question is.......... would you be more mad to have this happen to you? or to find out someone else got the tag you were supposed to get because of a bookkeeping error? Because that was what happened to someone for you to get the tag in the first place. It sucks to get your hopes up and have them crushed, but wouldn't it suck more for someone else to get the tag you were supposed to get? They found the mistake and fixed it.

Another way to look at this. Say you worked 40 hours but got paid for 20 because bookkeeping made a mistake and gave 20 of your hours to someone else. Wouldn't you be bummed if they didn't fix the mistake? And the guy who got your money would probably be bummed he had to give it back, but in his heart, he'd know it was the right thing to do.

It happens. In the state of South Dakota, they give out a couple of Bighorn Sheep tags for thousands of applicants. A few years ago, they had a glitch and sent the "Congratulations, you drew a Bighorn Sheep tag" to a few thousand applicants. They caught it pretty quickly, but not before people were pretty excited, and then crushed.

The same thing apparently happened with other Tier II tags, as I know someone who had "won" a 16B tag and has now had it revoked.

WOW! I just went to re-check my permits to make sure nothing had gone away. Now I have 5 permits!!!!

Musk-ox and elk were the most surprising since I didn't even apply for those, but what the heck....should be all good...right?

just kidding. Still just the same results as last week.
