First Coyote!!!

What a rush. I went out this morning at first light. After about 1/2 mile walk I started seeing both rabbit and coyote tracks. I nustled against an old dead tree and started blaring on my Primos Lil'dog open reed hand call. I also brought the squeaker out of my dogs toy and took the reed out of it. I tucked it in my cheek for easy access.
After about 10 minutes at 30 second intervals of a dying rabbit call (listened to tons of examples online the last few days) I see a coyote come trotting out of some trees coming right for me. I let off on the rabbit call and occasionally gave a few mouse peeps to keep him curious and coming in. He came right in to about 50 yards and had no idea I was there. I raised up the Mini-14 and let him have it right in the lower neck with a 55 gr barnes tsx. It went in and rattled his spine and dropped him instantly.
My camo for the day was the top half of a recycled tyvek suit that I just couldnt throw away.
I am absolutely tickled, this is my first time calling in a critter and it is definitely a riot.

Good job, that's a nicely furred up one too. Did you happen to weigh him? Congratulations on the kill. At one of my stands, I saw where somebody else had shot something. It looked like coyote tracks and fur on the ground by the blood. Now I'm wondering if it was you Mountain Man Jack???? Either way, don't give up your hot spot, keep after em'.

Nicely done. That guy looks really well furred. Nice story. I'm surprised you did not swallow the squeaker, I would have.
Get a weight if you can, that might be nice to see some comparisons this winter. Maybe others can do the same thing.

Thanks everyone. Yeah I'll try and get a weight on him this evening. Ive got the hide in one bag and the carcass in another. Should get it close enough for an estimate.
Camoman; not too sure if that shot was me. This yote didn't leave any fur as the shot went in and the bullet stopped under the hide. I brought him back home to do the dirty work and didnt leave much blood. Could have been though.
I got him in someone's back yard as you all can see the house in the background of my photo. No, actually for those curious, I hunted in the s. central region.

So I weighed the coyote this evening and he came in right about 25 lbs after being bled out of course. It was quite a bit lighter than I initially thought it'd be, but I guess they are mostly fur this time of year. Anyone know what the average size is of them up here?
Also I think it was a younger yote due to how great the pads on the paws looked and the whiteness of its teeth.

Most of the one's I've gotten are in that 26 to 28 pound range. I have a couple in the low thirties and one that went 37 pounds. I haven't seen any monster 55 pounders like they get down in some of the lower states. Good job though and thanks for the information. They always look heavier than they are.
