I’m trying to find options for a truck shuttle on the Steese Highway For this fall. Alaska Shuttle quoted me $1000 to move my truck from MM94 to MM142. Previously I paid a company about $350, and they changed a flat for me. Out of business now. The last couple years I’ve had military friends move my truck, but they’ve since been transferred out of Alaska.
I have several emails out to Fairbanks Taxi/shuttle services to see if they’ll move my truck, or pick me up and taxi me back to my put in location.
Also an option to use a dirt bike, but it would have to be left in the parking lot for 12 days. and I would need to borrow a bike.
Any leads on shuttle companies, or someone with young drivers who wanna make a few hundred bucks let me know.
TIA,
Eric

From central Fairbanks to MP 142 and back, figure 6 hours + pre-trip prep time x 2 people + fuel + wear and tear to vehicle and tires + insurance...
I guess I might start considering it at about 5 bills, IF i was really bored and looking for something to do on the precise day.
...But that's a lot of time behind the wheel, and for not much more time I can drive to Valdez and put my boat in the water...so it's a pretty tough sell!
The fact that a company which did that for only $350 is out of business now is not surprising.

I was expecting to pay about 500. The $350 bill was 7-8 years ago. Moving the truck while I'm on the river can be done anytime between put in and earliest take out date of about 9/10. If I move the truck on the put in day to the take out location, then it would have to be a precise pick up time/date to get me back to my rafts to start my hunt.
I was hoping someone on this forum had a couple responsible teenagers who wanted to earn some easy cash.

Seems like someone would give you a ride back to your truck if you asked/hitch hiked.

Stash an atv or bike and ride yourself. It is a pretty easy ride with one of those options. Maybe a DOT guy could help you out as well perhaps? They drive the road every day.

You can buy one of those Coleman dirt bikes at Sportsman's for about $700. https://www.sportsmans.com/camping-...rsports-ct200u-trail-200-mini-bikes/p/1467310
Thanks, but not really an option. Reviews say it doesn’t go over 20 mph and operational max weight is 200#. Driving the truck to the takeout location is an hour (50 miles on gravel road), then 2.5 hours back. That delays our rafting start by 3.5 hours. I cant move the truck until its offloaded and we’ve verified all parts/pieces and supplies are ready. A bike is the last option if I can’t hire drivers to move the truck or find a taxi service to pick me up. I don’t remember enough traffic at that end of the Steese to make hitchhiking a reliable option either.
Those bikes look cool though. Kinda like a cheaper version of the 2wd Rokons.

I've been eyeballin' this stylr of electric bike fellas. Heck of an upfront investment but a Birch Creek shuttle wouldn't take that long, then you could float the bike back downstream to the vehicle.

Thanks Larry. I have an older Rambo ebike which does well. its 50 miles between the take out and put in which would take a couple hours to travel. max speed is about 20 mph. I didn't think of taking it with me on the float, but that's an option.
One of my hunting buddies has a friend who lives in Fairbanks that might be able to help us out.
Thanks everyone for the comments.
