Well, I've been trying to contact Eric Sieh in Kotz and he manages to answer about 1 in 5 e-mails. Usually it takes him about 5 days to answer if he does at all. Sorry folks, this is not the mark of a reliable service provider to me. Many of you have recommended him for a caribou hunt but I just am not confident with his service so far. If any of you can say anything in his defense I'm open to listening.
Thanks
Bruce

Eric works for Hageland Aviation in Kotz. He's a busy guy. Has a family and all.
Try 907-442-2936. That's the Hag. number in Kotz.
However, as I said, your a long way from sept 07. he may not be seriously booking dates for that far in the future.

Bruce: You need to keep in mind that Eric works/flys every day for Hageland and his time is tough to get. i live here and its tough for me to talk to him! Up here you have choices and if you want some one who is good you have to work at it. Its not like other places in the lower 48, it Kotzebue!

Patience

Patience

Well, I guess I'll just have to be a little more patient. Still trying to make decisions though and it would be nice if he could answer them. Anybody know when Eric would need to book for Sept. 07?
Thanks for all the great help on these boards.
Love the new format!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Called Hagelund

I've called Hagelund in the past and as you say Eric is tough to get a hold of and he is the only one who can answer my hunting questions.

I think you can find answers to "hunting" questions from others as well. The area bio should be able to help. If your looking to hunt in a certain area, and that area is federal land, such as the Noatak Preserve, you can tak to folks there as well. I believe they have their own biologist and co-manage the game on their lands (our lands) with the state.

Eric Sieh Response Time ???

Eric Sieh Response Time ???

I FEEL YOUR PAIN MAN. I HAVE BOOKED ERIC FOR A TRIP ON ONE OF THE LOWER TRIBUTARIES OF THE NOATAK FOR AUGUST. HE IS HARD TO GET A HOLD OF. I OFTEN WAIT SEVERAL DAYS TO HEAR BACK FROM HIM. I DONT PERSONALLY KNOW HIM, BUT WITH ALL THE MONEY THAT IS INVOVED, YOU WOULD EXPECT A TIMELY RESPONSE. I AM PAYING HIM ALMOST 3 GRAND FOR FLIGHT IN AUGUST AND CANT GET A TIMELY RESPONSE. I HAVE TO ASSUME THAT HE IS BUSY. BUT I COMPLETELY KNOW WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM. I AM NOT SURE WHAT EMAIL YOU ARE USING BUT I GET IN TOUCH WITH HIM THROUGH THE CONTACT LINK ON WWW.ALASKAONYOUROWN.COM. FOR WHAT ITS WORTH, WHEN I HAVE TALKED TO HIM, HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY CORDIAL AND HELPFUL WITH THE ISSUES CONCERNING OUR TRIP. I HEAR HE IS A GOOD PILOT AND THAT IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT TO ME THAN PERSONAL BIAS. WALT MASLEN RUNS A BUSINESS IN KOTZ THAT RENTS HIGH QUALITY RAFTS,TENTS,STOVES, ETC.. HIS WEB SITE IS WWW.NORTHWESTALASKA.COM. KEEP HIM IN MIND FOR ANY GEAR NEEDS YOU MAY HAVE. HE IS A SUPER NICE GUY AND HAS ALREADY GIVEN ME ALOT OF INFO TO BETTER PLAN MY 13 DAYS UP THERE. CHECK HIM OUT. IF ERIC CONTINUES TO GIVE YOU THE COLD SHOULDER. CALL BUCK MAXSON AT ARCTIC AIR GUIDES. HE HAS LIVED IN KOTZ FOR A LONG TIME AND TOOK ME UP ON THE KELLY IN 2004. HE DID A FANTASTIC JOB. HE WONT TAKE ME WHERE I WANT TO GO THIS TIME, THAT IS WHY I CONTACTED ERIC IN THE FIRST PLACE. I HAVE HEARD ONLY GREAT THINGS ABOUT THE BOTH OF THEM AND FEEL CONFIDENT THAT YOU WOULD FIND THAT TO BE THE CASE. GOOD LUCK.

Tried contacting through northwestern aviation

Tried contacting through northwestern aviation

Thanks for the info all. I have gotten ahold of Eric(sporadically) at [email protected]. I have used the e-mail link on northwestern aviation and gotten no response there. I think that used to be Jim Rood?? For a while Eric was going to buy Jim out but I guess that fell through. As far as Buck goes, I called him about a month ago and he tells me he is flying year to year and will not take reservations until after his flight physical in January. Seems like a great guy but if I wait that long to reserve and he can't do it then I'm screwed as everyone else will be booked for the good weeks. Walt is a real nice guy. I've been a downright pest and he has always helped out.

Hunt Iviq

that is another good option. I'll second the opinion of the previous poster-really good people. I wouldn't give up on Eric if you really want to do a fly in, but I undrstand you being anxious to get everything lined out.

Busy all day, spends time with family all night, and I think he's booked up solid. Best is to try to reach him at Hageland Aviation in between trips into and out of the bush.

I've been impressed with Eric so far. We are flying out with him in a few weeks and he's been very helpful and ,more importantly comes highly recommended as a **** good pilot. The otz email is the one to use and just keep it brief,to the point, show respect for his time and don't expect five page responses. All of my emails and questions have been answered in less then 10-12 hours to this point. Also judging by the time stamps on the emails, he is often answering them in the wee hours of the morning. And like previously stated, he may just be booked solid anyway and after 18 hour days may not give you the priority that booked people may get. For example, I made my reservation back in early Feb!

Anyway, good luck and in the future try to plan in the winter/early spring when these guys have more time on their hands than in the peak times of the summer season.
