Red eggs make the worst bait of any salmonid. Best to worst for quality bait.

Red eggs suck for bait but they are better than nothing. I used to get them at fish cleaning tables by asking nicely and I caught plenty of fish with them.

Really? I've never noticed any issues with Red eggs. Chum eggs always turn into a gooey mess on me tho, I quit using them.

I've always kept the red eggs from fish that I dipped and never had a problem with them either. Sure beats paying for them. King eggs are the best I do agree but they are hard to come by and nobody shares those suckers... "fishon"

Valley fishermen usually hook the silver on a sharp hook when they taste test the egg cluster. LOL

They do milk less but hold color & cluster well, + there are some tricks
to enhance scent. ( Few fishermen share all of their egg curing secrets )

My batch is almost ready for silver season, drying some, then will be bagged & frozen :


Been using them for over 30 years with good success.

Kinda hard to get king eggs lately

Pink eggs clusters don't hold together well.
Who keeps/kills chum ? for the eggs ?
I like silver eggs, but gotta catch & cure them, by then I have enough fish in the freezer.

I use egg clusters, not single eggs,

be nice to see the same fisherman on the same day in the same water
do a test (not know which eggs are on the line )

( I've caught silvers on orange ear plugs , flo-pink survey tape, silver gill plates .........

)
