Early season Upper Kenai float question

Planning on floating (and definitely fishing!) this towards the end of April before the closure, my question is this…

Where would you put in and take out? Cooper to Sportsman’s? Cooper to Jim’s? Sportsman’s to Jim’s?

I’m doing this with a few friends, all of us in single rafts/pontoon boats.

I’ve floated Sportsman’s to Jim’s before, but bigger raft and not on the oars. This will be my first time behind the oars on this river. I’ll be in a raft with a rowing frame.

Looking for information on both bank fishing and ease of float.

I'm a big fan of the Sportsman's to Jim float, especially with single rafts/pontoons. Lots of great river bar access to fish for bank fishing using your boats for access. No significant rapids to speak of, and no private property to worry about (unlike between Cooper and Sportsman's).

It depends on your preference for fishing and the length of float you're looking for. If you want a longer float with more opportunities for bank fishing, you could put in at Cooper and take out at Sportsman's. This is about a 10-mile float and has some great fishing spots along the way.
If you want a shorter float with more rapids and challenges, you could put in at Cooper and take out at Jim's. This is only a 5-mile float but has some exciting rapids and great fishing spots as well.
Finally, if you want a mix of both, you could put in at Sportsman's and take out at Jim's. This is about a 7-mile float and has a good mix of rapids and fishing spots.

Sorry, but those calculations don’t make sense, pretty sure you have the ins and outs confused

Better question is do you already know the holes you want to fish? I’m assuming you floated the river before.

I’ve only floated it one time, Sportsman’s to Jim’s. Not familiar with the holes at all, just plan on looking around and seeing what I can find

I would float from the lake to Jim’s. There are good holes all the way down to Skilak but I have never been through the canyon in spring so I can’t tell you if it is safe or not in a 1man or not.
