I wanted to work up a load for my 338wm. I got 200 Speer 225 grain boat tail bullets. They we’re certainly not my first or second choice but they were “some “. I found a good powder charge with a oacl slight jammed, or so I thought. The ogives are not consistent. I can’t get any kind of reference. Very hard to find the sweet spot on the bullet jump if they aren’t the same! I only measured 3 and there were 15 thousands difference between all them. They were cheap, now I know why.

Suggest Nosler Accubond or Partition in 225gr in your 338 Win
The only good bullet for the 338 from Speer is the 250gr Grand Slam. I wish they still made the 225gr Speer Grand Slam excellent bullet my preferred weight the 225gr.
The Swift A Frame 225gr kinda hard to fine currently is most excellent.
The 225gr TTSX Barnes is a good do all bullet.
This Swift 225gr went thru a 1500lb Bull Moose at 300 yards length wise dropped on the spot. The only bullet I have ever recovered . The 225gr Accubond is the only Boat Tail I use in my 338 win because it’s bonded it stays together. My 338 RUM only gets Swift A Frames 225gr.

71.0 of IMR 4350 or 76.0 of RL 19 in 338 Win 6C19A6BB-ED8E-4419-BAFD-B384BB95AC7B.jpeg

Roger that on the quality bullets. I’m just having a hard time finding any. My rifle seems to have an accuracy node with 70.5 of h4350 With those Speers. I am really bummed about these bullets. While finding the correct powder charge, I shot 23 rounds at a hundred yard with the conogragh attached to the barrel. All different powder charges into a 1 1/2“ group. Was showing promise!

Well the only thing I could find that seemed to fit was Norma oryx 230 grain. $2.08 each! Seriously? Some of the sights I went to were selling bullets by the 12 pack. Cutting up a box like cutting up cocaine!

That would be good, thanks! I begrudgingly bought a100 of those oryx. We’ll see how they perform.

I'm pretty sure I have some extra Speer 250gr Grand Slam bullets, along with some other sizes. I'll look tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Thanks for that. I am going to see how these Norma oryx shoot. At the price they should be gold plated! After this episode with those other Speers, I don’t want anything to do with Speer. First and last time.

I use Barnes in all my hunting loads and they have never failed me. I've seen their 225gr TTSX bullets around locally a couple times recently so they are available if you look around for them. They're also half the price of those Norma bullets.
