DI403 & DI404 only 56 out of 120 permits - Ends Soon!

DI403 & DI404 – 2010/2011 bison season. F&G said on Monday that only #56 of the 120 permits issued have been taken!
March 31 is the deadline, so hurry" time is running out! Hunters need to get hunting if they are going to fill their permits and freezers. On the farm I have been busy with hunters all season, a few make a connection, a few get close and a few see where they were. The bison are staying north of the highway later than normal. A hunter spoke with the military yesterday and they said they have only seen a couple bison so far. The bison are hanging out north of the highway later than normal.

Don't know nothing about bison hunting, never considered it before. I thought most was buying a bison on a ranch that raised them, and then going out and shooting it. So there are permits left to buy from what you are saying. What area are they available for, what is involved in hunting them. In that area do you need a sled to get them out, or will a ATV work? I'd lov the meat, I know it is great, is the season over the end of march also. I know a bunch of ignorant ass questions here, but I've never considered it until I saw the thread posted here. Bud

Bud - You misunderstand. Diana is stating that only 56 hunters issued 2010/2011 Delta bison permits have killed an animal thus far. That means there are still 64 people who were issued permits and can still hunt before the season closes at the end of this month.

Wow.. less than 50% harvest in 5+ months! It's generally, a tougher hunt than most folks realize.

I wonder how the Kodiak "stats" compare?:lol:

I shot mine tomorrow (3-11), ten years ago... It took 24 days of hunting to connect on a Big bull, and was just a great experience overall. Maybe again someday.....

There are ranch raised bison that you can buy - DI403 or DI404 are not in that group! I never said anything about buying a bison. If you apply for hunting permits I would think you'd know about the Delta bison hunt." The state issued #120 permits for the 2010/2011 season. Thousands of folks apply for this hunt, including me. I have not been lucky enough to win, yet! I love these bison and though I have never won a permit: I think there are several folks in the past few years who would say I have helped them find, field dress, retrieve, etc. You are right about the meat being great! In the past 25 years my husband has drawn two permits. If you don't apply for a permit you can never win one of these sought after permits. Hope this answered a few of your questions.

wow, only 56 taken? crazy. very suprising since it is such a hard permit to draw. I would be calling in sick until I filled that tag. Was lucky enough to be on my sister in law's successful DI404 hunt last october. If anyone is having trouble filling it, Diana is a GREAT resource.

The Delta hunt has historically had a 70% +/- success rate. The 6 month season has less than 3 weeks left and it's only at 46% so far... Maybe, they'll give out more Permits next year! To make up for this years poor Harvest.:think:

If you have a permit, get your butt to Delta and HUNT!!! March is the best month to do it. Good Luck

I am one of the lucky ones who not only drew a tag but harvested a animal. I shot mine on December 10, 2010 on the Panaramic fields. I hunted on one farm for most of my time, but would check the public fields on my way in and out of town. I got lucky and saw over 200 head the day I connected on mine. I would like to take this time to say thanks to families that allowed me to hunt on there land, and for being so helpful in my endevor. Also good luck to the rest of you on your hunt. It is a great time and is the most memoriable hunt I have ever done! Enjoy it while you can, and good luck!

For the first time that I recall, they opened the season for early hunt, only on private property. I beleive this was done in August or so. So them bison have been hunted now for 8 months.

We've had boots on the ground up there on three occasions, heading up tonight for fourth and final try. They are a nervous bunch, and for good reason. Hope to punch that tag.
