Every few years the wife and I camp along the Dalton highway and in a few weeks we will be heading up that way to the area around Galbraith Lake area north of Atigun pass. The last time we were up in that area was 2019. For people who have made the trip this summer, how are the conditions? Same old same old? Or are there new issues or construction I should be prepared for? Camping locations are always by ear, and there are a lot of good options between Coldfoot and Galbraith.

Thanks!

I just got back, so I want to leave this update. With the exception of road work being done around the Arctic Circle rest area, the highway is in the best condition I’ve ever seen it. The road work I mentioned wasn’t too bad. The Steese Highway was much worse than anything I found on the Dalton Highway.

It just always seems to be the same. We go every year. Some road work but not bad. Some people but not too crowded. We like to watch the bow hunters but mostly just flyfish ourselves, and take pictures. Lots of fun.
