My son and I (along with the other kids and adults in B.A.P.) will be working the Build-A-Plane silent auction and bake sale tent, as well as tours of our Cherokee 6 project. Stop by and say hi.

Cliff was a great guy and one hell of a pilot. He helped so many people out. He used to bring me supplies when I living in a very remote area North of Talkeetna. He is one tough act to follow.

Might go and be part of it but ....... it might just be bait ????

Here is what I mean ... got this email last week from a friend of a friend .... could be a ramp check in your adgenda ....

Your tax dollars at work.

FYI- there are 2 fairbanks FSDO ******* stationed here at TKA for the summer. They are "observing operations" on the field. So make sure you are ready for a ramp check if you ever get up this way. Tell all your buddies too. There is a maintenance inspector and a pilot/ flight inspector. They are bored and getting in everyone's business. they sit on the ramp in a gov'mint mini van and "talk" to anybody who shows up.

I knew Cliff for a long time. Jay too, for that matter. Knew him when Doug (then flying for Cliff) wouldn't let Jay fly into High Lake Lodge's ice strip on the lake. 960' long by 12' wide, I guess it was just too small for a really young pilot. Still, we operated out C-206 fro mit.

I'm truly sorry that I can't make the Memorial Fly-in. I'll pause for a moment, though, to say my goodbyes to Cliff again.

David Lee married Holly. David is a longtime pilot with several air services and they started this new service, basically buying out Hudson's hanger. I don't believe they have any of Hudson's planes, though. They have a 185 and a Beaver the last I checked.

Do what you need to do. Like any other gathering of people, law enforcement will likely show up.

I lived in Talkeetna all thru the 70's and early 80's. One early summer day when I was 10 (1979) I rode my Huffy bike from town the back way (we called it the the old lake road) to Talkeetna lake (officially called Christianson lake) to do some fishing. I rode up to a lone dock (before the house and shop were built) and started to cast. I started catching some small land locked silvers, maybe 8-10"s at best. I was having a blast that summer day by myself when suddenly a plane landed out in the lake and then turned and started heading my way. Scared and to late to book down off the dock I just reeled up and froze as the plane bumped up to the dock. I quickly started to pick up my tackle and pole and prepared to get a lashing for being on someones dock. The plane door opened, and out came a tall scary guy with a thin mustach. He looked at me, smiled and asked if I was having any luck? I studderd and said, "yes sir, but just little ones". He laughed and told me that there were some bigs ones out there and asked if he could help me. I was SHOCKED! I handed him my pole and my box. He went thru it and said, "to catch big fish you need big lures", then gabbed the biggest Mepps I had which was a #3, gold with the red label logo on the blade ( I remember it like it was yesterday). He then said that we need to get this lure WAY out there but I didn't have enough weights. He then got into his plane and pulled out a hand full of building nails. He tied on 3 or 4 about 2 feet above the Mepps and handed me the pole. To be honest, even at 10 I thought I knew more then this old man and was convinced that we were over doing it with the tackle. I casted that thing as far as I possibly could. Further (I'm sure do to the weight of the set up) then I have ever casted. About half way thru the retrieve I had a silver hit that felt like a river salmon. It took drag and went crazy for 5 minutes before I reeled him up. I about fainted when I seen the size of that fish swim up to the dock. I looked up to Cliff and thanked him with all my heart. He looked at me, rubbed my messy blonde head and laughed, "no problem kid, good luck fishing". He jumped into his truck and took off. I ended up catching 3 BIG silvers that went over 20"s that day and also met a new friend. After that I became good friends with his sons. Boy that family knew how to fish...

We had a great day today. Not an FAA official in sight ;) Lots of local pilots and a couple dozen flew in. We'll be at it again tomorrow if anyone wants to come up.
