using the old rcbs lube and roller pad i put up with the mess for years.....then discovered the new hornady one shot aerosol spray lube. it was great! the beauty of one shot was the inside the neck lube was no longer a separate operation.

this week i had trouble with three cans, and now i am looking for a substitute that is non-aerosol.

suggestions would be appreciated.

My favorite is Hornady Unique case lube followed closely by Imperial die wax.

I am a huge (literally & metaphorically) fan of Imperial Sizing Wax. I've tried various products, but have used it almost exclusively for the last many years and have never encountered an issue with it. But for a more in-depth look check out these links:

My buddy Alfonso swears by the Lee lube, but not the way they use it. He thins it in alcohol and then sprays his casings from a spray bottle. He swears by it. JFYI

What problem did you encounter with the 1 Shot cans? I switched to it exclusively myself about a year ago and have encountered no problems but would like to know what I might expect to encounter!

1 part liquid lanolin and 4 to 5 parts parts 99 percent isopropyl alcohol. Works great, relatively cheap and you can make it yourself!

Probably same as I said with mixing Lee Lube with alcohol.

thanks for the suggestion guys! i think hornady one shot is a great product.....i had a half full can that would not spray, but it was a year old so i thought that was the problem. using new cans ( from last fall ) the first one sprayed briefly then stopped, and the second one sprayed and wouldn't stop. perhaps this is an isolated bad case lot.
anyway i have decided to try something non aerosol, and your suggestions are a help. thanks a lot!

I've had similar experiences with the aerosol cans of One Shot.

I'll also say that it is difficult to lube every case with certainty with One Shot; this difficulty with spray lubes frequently displays itself with either dented or stuck cases. No doubt, there are lots of guys that use them (spray lubes) with perfect success, but IMO there are more efficient & effective lubes--Imperial Sizing DIe Wax being numbered among them.

I reload 7.62 Nagant, the worst cartridge to reload I have ever messed with. I have used ALL and I mean all the lubes out there and the only ones that have never given me a stuck case are the Imperial Die Wax from Redding and the Unique lube from Hornady. For NORMAL cases, one shoot is good, but spendy for what you get. Unique is a good bargain

I stuck my first case using RCBS's pump spray lube so not that excited to do it again. 300 WBY brass is expensive to goof up and a PITA to unstick. I like the reviews on the emperial wax but never used it. Where can a guy find this stuff to give it a whirl?

I only use Lube on pistol cases since I neck size rifle cases. I basically dip my finger into the Unique (or the redding) and apply to case with finger, Keep a rag in my jockey shorts to wipe hands every once in a while. One dip is good for several cases.

That little tiny can of Imperial is enough to last a loooong time. I use One Shot for the easy stuff like to lube one row in the loading block for that tenth one your supposed to lube when using carbide pistol dies. I use Imperial for the heavy duty stuff like full length sizing rifle cases. As a side note I think someone here turned me onto it, when sizing nickel cases that are stubborn IE magnum rifle cases. Spray them with OneShot then smear them with Imperial, it's amazing how easy they'll slide through the die.

What is the big big deep secret to using the Imperial wax! I know the instructions are not correct at least one the tin I have i.e. spread a very thin film over case.

I've had a tin for years and occasionally run across it and try it again until I get discover it still doesn't work and toss it back in my junk drawer again. Guess I should have tossed it years ago but I keep hoping I'll figure out what I am doing wrong - it has become something of a challege to try to get it to work.

I've tried various amounts from very light to very heavy, let it dry overnight, cleaned the dies out first etc. and it still requires a lot more force to resize cases than about everything else I've used. Note that over the years I've used all sorts of stuff and usually have decent sucess when I got everything right.

For the last decade or so I've used the Lee stuff cause it is clean, appears to work well, and comes off my fingers and the cases easily. The Hornady liquid works esp. if you allow it dry; it appears to be about the same as the One Shot spray.

To use Imperial, just dab a finger in the goop and smear a little on the case being sure to cover the bottom half of the case completely. I find it and the Lee stuff to be good but I like the Unique case lube better. About a year ago, I tried everything in the house and garage that resembled lube and found I like Unique the best. It is not the absolute slickest but it cleans up easy. Castor oil is very slick but is a mess. Straight lanolin is slick but is messy. Same with STP. As The Kid said One Shot left to dry with Unique over the top is unreal slick and cleans up well. I only use that on really stubborn cases as it is more work and more expense.

I cannot imagine what the problem is tvfinak as I do not have any big secrets in its use. I keep a very modest amount of wax on my thumb and forefinger and roll the case between them which gives a VERY light coating. I've never had an issue with this application process and mess is minimal as is the amount of lube that is required. I use a paper towel for clean up; the newly sized case takes a twist or two and she's good for another firing. It takes a good deal longer to read about the process than to complete it.

IME, when using Imperial sizing die wax, less is more. Meaning that less wax works as well and creates much less mess and fuss. I've been using the stuff for 15+ years with nary an issue.
