I am looking for a lake or small creek within 2 hours of Eagle River to camp and fish this weekend. My wife and child will be with me so long walks are out of the question. I have been studying the atlas for days now and I still have no idea where to go this weekend.

Any suggestions?

Are the kings down in Seward yet? I suppose I should head south so I can keep clear of them pesky blood suckers.

King River near Sutton

King River near Sutton

My in-laws live near King River around mile 66 of the Glenn hwy. There is lots of room to camp near the creek and you can drive your vehicle right to it. This is the trail head for the King river trail as well as the Primrose trail. About 7 miles up the trail is Ruby lake which has a lot of good rainbows. King river also has rainbows, I haven't fished it much though.

Kings River is an excellent idea. Right now I am leaning towards Seward for some king snagging. I hear the catches are slow, but I have been told I could catch a fish out of a septic tank. :)

I believe those trout prefer warmer water.

Lake, Finger or Nancy or Long (mile 86 Glenn).

River, The old deception creek campground on Willow end of Hatcher pass. Or even Eklutna Tailrace/Lil Su at Burma (hint).
