Cache Camper owners: share your experiences, good and not-so-much?

While I have heard almost all positive comments about Cache Campers (http://cachecamper.com/index.html), which stand out for their simplicity, it would be useful to hear about what works/doesn't on their campers. I like the idea of a lightweight basic-shelter camper a lot, but wonder how much some of the tricked out campers end up costing and how well the optional features (bed, stove, bathroom) hold up after a few years?

Have had one for five yeas now. Very well made. Not a high end made for looks rig. But frig works great, heater will do the job in any temps. Wish I had a toilet in mine as I would be subjected to a lot less complaining from someone else that doesn't like peeing in the bushes. Sturdy rig, I have been standing on the roof with 2 feet of snow up there and it held up. For a basic no thrills camper that you can depend on taking Alaskan abuse..... good choice.

They do excellent work at Cache. I had them do some custom additions to my camper, plus some extensive repair as well - very professionally done. Many others must think so too; they've run a full crew all winter and still have a month+ of backlogged work. Pretty good for the "slow" time of their year.

A good and not so expensive addition to any camper is a Fan-Tastic power vent in place of one of your normal roof louver-vents. It can fit in the exact hole from a freshly removed AC unit too and is more useful than AC and is tons lighter.

I bought a used camper and on one side the aluminum siding was replace with vinyl. The side with the vinyl shrink in the winter and expands in the summer and I have several large crack because if this problem. To say the least I am not happy with vinyl siding.

My repairs they did included them replacing a few square yards of vinyl exterior on my Fleetwood Angler. They matched it up great; I've had no fit/finish problems in the year since, so far.

Thanks, Dave. I have heard many good things about these campers - and much lighter compared to a tricked out Lance, etc. Appreciate your comments about strength/durability. I will ponder the toilet option too based on your comment. Good to hear from you.

FM, sounds like these mods involved some frame works. If so, was the frame wood or metal?

I'm not conversant with the framework of my camper, but I think its mostly wood. On mine one rear corner where the camper jack is located had wood that had been soaked for years and had gone soft. They had to replace the (wooden) meat of the corner itself, redo some wiring, then redo the vinyl siding affected.

They also had to fix the side rail (where the camper sits on the side edge of the bed of my pickup) at its front attachment point - I'm pretty sure there is steel in there along that bottom of the camper, because once I bent the heck out of it (frost heave) it didn't bend or come back into alignment (it could not sit flat on the side of my truck).

I didn't feel confident doing both these structural repairs myself so I hired the pros. I would again too. Good as new now.

Reason I bought my slide in from them they made it taller for me -bigger bed etc.Also they can and have repaired it for me. They have been here a long time and are good to deal with. I would do it all again but some things I would not have as in outside shower etc. Call me and I will share things about a build for you. 230-3450

I have used Cache Camper for repairs and parts many times in the last 20+ years. I have found Larry to be very honest and will not hesitate to say if it is out of his knowledge base. He has always had recommendations on somewhere better suited if he an't do it. I have had him order things for me and he has always had a great price...the last thing was a PullRite 18K 5th wheel hitch that weighs about 150#. Awesome.

Cache Camper also has all kinds of parts including rebuild kits for out of production Hijacker hydraulic camper jacks that I couldn't find anywhere, even on the internet.

I purchased a bed edge mounted and over the cab shell in 1980. It is still in good operating condition today. I am highly impressed with the quality of ther product and workmanship.

This thread has been buried for a few years but the subject is relevant to me now.
I'm thinking about buying one of the bed edge mounted "cabover canopy" units.

Anyone have anything useful to add?

Haha! Well this thread's now been buried a few years more. We didn't end up going with Cache Campers but everything I heard was favorable. We did make a trip to their Wasilla production and were very impressed. Cache seems well-suited and well-built to the niche truck camper market - if you have specific (custom) preferences.
