Buying a sled w/ a Track missing Mucho Lugs?

So your thinking about buying a sled that has a 144" x 2" track. How much would you guys deduct from the asking price of the sled if it has lots and lots of lugs ripped off, on the ends, in the center, pretty much throughout?

If you're going to replace a 144x2" you're looking at $500-600 plus labor for a new track. ?If you can find a used track, you're probably looking at half that.

I second Milo's advice.

Also, look over a sled run that hard very carefully.

Powder tracks can tear lugs when run on anything other than powder, and even a well maintained sled can shed lugs if the driver has a lead thumb...but abuse on one area of the sled often means general neglect. Look at the clutches and suspension closely and test ride before paying.

I'd price out a new track and subtract that from what he's asking for it. And like what Erik in AK said, look that thing over real well because it sounds like it might have been abused. What kind of sled is it Cub?

Break off one paddle and the rest go like dominoes. With the advent of 2" and taller paddles that problem is common. Tracks wear out. It's usually no big deal. Changing the track will give you the chance to replace the drive and jackshaft bearings. That's not a bad thing.

Its a 06 Switchback 600. Sled has 1500 miles on it, and the sled is in very good condition otherwise. I believe the track shape is a result of the usual riding around North Pole/Fairbanks with a Mountain track in shallow snow and road crossings type of damage. Track aint cheap, been quoted over $700 for just about anything worth owning. 144x15x1.5 or 1.75

Cub, look for a good used one, you should be able to find one for much less than $700. I see tracks for sale on the Graigs List all the time.
