Broken 22/45 rear sight

AAAARRRRGGGHH. I got a good deal on a Ruger 22/45 a few weeks ago. I took it to the range today to run it through the paces. I get set up, range is hot, lock and load......what the .....
At some point I managed to break the rear sight blade in half. It must have happened either when I took it apart to clean (what a pain in the rump), or in the range bag on the way there. Not sure, but one side of the rear sight was missing.
Can't really speak on the accuracy, but even with half a rear sight it was maintaining about a 4" group at 10yrds. Sure is fun to shoot. I put about 200 rounds of CCI Stinger through it without any problems.
Replacement part? About $2.99. But, sounds like a good excuse to get a set of high vis sights.
In any case, a quick "Google" of "Ruger 22/45 rear sight" got me a few forums that leads me to believe this isn't an uncommon occurance.
Got to get it fixed so I can see what this thing can do.

The gun will do a whole lot better than 4" at 10yds. Probably more like dime size groups with decent ammo if you do your part.

Take it to Wild West Guns. They will get you all set-up and nipping one hole groups at 10 yards. Enjoy the new ,22!

Dump the Stingers. Use CCI, Blue Tag Mini Mag HP's in the Ruger. You should get very small groups at 25 yards with them.
The Ruger does not like the slow target ammo either, just regular high speed stuff.
I buy the bulk boxes of Fed ammo for fun shooting and even though there are a lot of "bloopers" they shoot OK. WW bulk has way too many bad rounds.
When the WW Wildcat ammo first came out, it was deadly and I won Ohio state IHMSA with my Ruger and I had a new gun with no sight settings. I missed 3 out of 60, first pig, turkey and ram but my spotter seen the hits so I could adjust the sight.
But the ammo went the same as the great Remington loads and is junk today.
The very worst thing about a Ruger .22 (Or any .22.) is the ammo made today. The Mini Mag is still good stuff.

Ya, some of the cheap bulk ammo is just plain junk. For the cheap stuff, Blazer works pretty good. Few people can shoot off hand with a handgun good enough to tell the difference between ok ammo and the really expensive stuff. Stinger has never been known for accuracy. Put a scope or red dot on it and you will see it's a lot more accurate than you can hold. Makes it a lot easier to shoot as well.

I've actually heard quite a few people are happy with the Blazer ammo. I picked up the Stinger just for something fast to break it in.
In any case, I'm sure once I have a servicable rear sight that will tighten up what I was getting this weekend.
The wife and son aren't too keen on the .45ACP or .44mag so this will be something we can all enjoy together.

And, Blazer has run flawlessly out of my picky .22LR's
Plus it's a solid and the only other bulk stuff I can find is HP.(I like a 40gr solid in my .22LR's)

SW had a boat load of Peters 22LR on sale the other day for $14 a brick. It's a 40gr solid plain lead bullet that looks very good. I tried it the other day in my Browning Buck Mark to test a holo sight I just put on. I shot one box and it fired and fed great. I didn't test it for accuracy. I shot a 10shot group of about 1" at 10yds standing two hands. Looks like it will be plenty good for hunting grouse and hare.

Got the new V-notch rear sight blade and high-vis front sight installed. Seems to work well. Shot it for about two hours today with my son, it definately likes something that leaves the barrel at about 1200 FPS. Not so much the Stingers or the sub-sonic rounds either. We had some Remingtons that were working well. Good fun indeed.

By the way, I shot the Peters ammo at 50yds with my 90year old Savage rifle a couple days ago. Only shot one 5 shot group but it was right at 1/2". I know there is better ammo but at under $20 a brick this stuff is great and it's a 40gr solid waxed lead bullet. Glad to see you got it up and running. It should provide several lifetimes of family fun.
