Blackie And The 500 Mag

My son and I returned back from our black bear hunt .
We hiked in about 5 miles in the Kachemak bay area across from Homer .
It was a spot and stock hunt .
I took this 6 1/2 blackie at 77 yards with one of my hard cast 700 GrainWFNGC Thumpers for my 500 Smith Revolver .
I was able to get the bear to stop and take a look at me.
When he stoped to take a look he sat down at an angle from me .One shot through the heart and out the back through a rib .He did a back flip when hit and that was it !!!
Half inch hole in and a smidgen bigger on the exit.
Got to love hard cast bullets .
The hide is perfect with no rubs at all.
The taxidermist has him now .
Overall we had a great time .

Lets see if this works .I could not get the pictures to work last time .
First picture is with the bear was taken .
Second picture the bear is on it's back with one of my 700 Grain Thumper 's hard cast bullet from my Smith & Wesson Preformance Center 500 mag laying beside the entrance hole .
Third picture is of the trolly which gets us to the other side .

This was my son's first bear hunting trip and he loved it except for the double trip out 5 miles each way .

It doesnt get any better than that! Your son will have memories for a lifetime to pass on to his kids too.

LOL I dont know many kids that can grow a go-tee like that. When I was a kid I could only hope for peach fuzz. Just poking fun.

Nope that is me in the picture with the bear .
I hear you about the peach fuzz when I was a young kid.I could not buy a whisker !!!!
Here is a couple pic's of my son .One is at our camp he is scouting the river bed and the other pic I am looking down at him from some boulders while he is making fresh water .
He did mention to me on our second trip out that if we seen another blackie he did not want to take it on that trip .We were both worn out .
Got to love it though !!!!

What load did you use with your 700 grainer? I just loaded 50 rounds with your thumper at 1000 fps. May get to try them out this weekend.

That trolly is located on the other side of Kachemak Bay across from Homer close to Halibut Cove.
The tram name is Grewingk Creek Tram off of the Grewingk Glacier Trail .

You will have a blast to say the least ( yes pun intended ) .

The load I am using is 27.5 Gr of WW 296 Vel 1264 .
This is a max load with noticeable recoil .
I have shot 3,728 rounds ( and counting ) of the 700 Grain Thumpers with this load and it is a tack driver at 125 yards out of my Smith & Wesso Preformance Center 10.5 Version . Ok the tacks are big !!! groups are 2"-4" off a rest .
50 yards are clover leafs .I will post a pic of the 50 yard target and the 700 Grain Thumpers .

Hey Rick,I got the order and loaded them all up. I went through all the 700's already. WOW!!! My hand still stings a bit. I will definately be ordering some more.

Glad to hear you enjoyed them .
The 700's are like a can of peanuts ,you just can't open them up and have just one hand full !!!!!!
Yep you can get a tingle in your hands from launching a cylinder full of the Thumpers down range .
I have actually cut two standing beattle dead spruce 12" tree's in half with these 700's .
I forget how many rounds I shot to get them to fall over ?? It was fun to say the least .
My buddy had a 44 and we both started at the same time at different trees .He finally gave up .His did not fall over !!!
I have pictures of them some where .I will see if I can find them to post.

We had a few small guys pester us during a moose hunt higher up in the hills, but we did not shoot any of them since it would have scared away the wiley moose.
The moose that snookered us anyway.

I would say between 250-275 . WE had 115 pounds of boned out meat so I really do not know ??.
My Wife and I will do the same hunt this year across the bay after my Kodiak Brown bear trip is over and yes I will be using my S&W 500 mag for both hunts .
I hope to have some pictures to share . Hopefully there will be a dead Brown bear in them !!!!!!
