When I said "Flight Service" I mean the air transporter I've hired to drop me in the field. I think you are talking about Flight Services which is the entity where pilots file flight plans. I don't know if flight services (for pilots) will allow you to close a flight plan via text message. It would be nice if they would though.

Ah sorry, when people say flight service, I assume they're talking about FAA flight service since in aviation terms that's what that means.

I talked to them this spring as a show and they still couldn't do it, and I was like, then people will continue to not use you.

I just wanted to let y’all know Elon Musk is teaming up with T-mobile to use Starlink satellite’s to improve cell coverage and will supposedly leave no dead zones. Just an fyi.

My answer to the persistent "Elon will save us" rumors: SHOW ME!

Starlink has zero coverage north of Ketchikan...and Ketchikaniadians have to look pretty far south to tag a satellite.

I had no idea about the lack of coverage! Well, I guess the article didn’t include Alaska at all in coverage. You always seem to be up to date on things so I am glad you chimed in. Stay safe.

I use Surveyor's Exchange for service and support. I've got so many roll-over minutes so I wont lose 'em that now my convos are like i'm drinkin on the deck....jeeze man, $2/min or some shit gets under my skin. Be nice to see a plan to meet the "rarely calls needed generation"

ALL and i mean ALL of my pilots ask me why not an N-Reach yet?

stubborn and bitter, out

There are a few third party nerd websites that track every one of his satellites and show the relevant connectivity/coverage metadata....no sales pitches or news release soundbites included. Not going to link them here, folks can search them up easy enough. Cheers!

If I'm going to be hunting for a week, what is the best Sat phone or Zoleo rental plan/company to be able to contact fly-in pilot, If we need a second plane, for extra weight?

Well if he said it, then yeah, we might see that in ten or twenty years. After all, we were "definitely" going to have Starlink up here in the first quarter of 2022. Last I checked we're a bit past that date now.

The article I was reading that announced the merger made it sound great- I should have known better than to think AK was included. Oh well- maybe one day….

Honestly, I feel a sense of peace and freedom when I am in places that I can escape from this connected world. That said, I do get why people want to have the ability to connect and communicate.

The build out up here for starlink is finished so it’s coming soon…

What do you mean by "build out"?

Build out means… build out. Installing infrastructure to make something work.

but before you ask infrastructure such as fiber lines, antenna FFS.

and before you even ask, it means for fucks sake

Yeah, I know what 'build out' means, and I know it's a cool sounding phrase... But I'm not aware of Starlink having set foot in Alaska, let alone having "finished build out". Can you provide any verifiable examples of actual Starlink infrastructure "build out" being "finished" in Alaska?

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "soon" and exactly what remains to be done to make Starlink functional in Alaska? I don't see it coming in a timeframe I would define as "soon" (or even "ever"). I'd love to see some evidence to the contrary!

I could show you the copy of the check they paid us to install everything. Not sure what proof you want. I’m not going to give out the location because they likely don’t want people knowing. I bet there’s a lot that goes on here in the state you don’t hear about!!!

And by soon i mean you will be alive because guess what, it’s functional right now…..you just can’t buy it yet hahahahahhaa

Yeah, and I could show you my pay stubs for building part of the first space shuttle....but that doesn't mean jack.

There are 4 ground stations in AK, and there are photos and exact GPS coordinates of them online. I've seen the one in NP with my own eyes...but your secret regarding the location is safe with me!:grintears2:

So what? It's not functional yet because there are no satellites in northern orbits yet. And those alleged launch dates have been pushed back a year at at a time, every year for three years in a row, and counting. Meanwhile Musk tells contradictory stories to different audiences about his intentions regarding satellite deployment. The story he's been telling everyone in northern latitudes is that they should send him money and cross their fingers (check Websters for the definition of "pyramid scheme"). The story he tells potential partners and investors is that he's going to fill in holes (and there are still a ton of holes) in the gravy belt before he worries about the polar orbits... Pick the story you want to believe.

I'm happy for you that you got paid to outfit a ground station. But a ground station is worthless without satellites....and there doesn't seem to be any credible intel that polar orbit satellites will be coming anytime soon, if ever.

Good grief I forgot about all the tin foil conspiracy fools on here. You could of saved all that you typed above and typed:

”I don’t know anything about this but my feelings are hurt”.

I don’t care about your opinion. It’s obvious you know nothing about what they have done up here. It was an entertaining read though. Still laughing at the four locations part. That was a good one. And the map showing them. I forgot to look at my map of the know it alls on AOD before responding. Easy to forget when you check in once or twice a year.

let’s see that “map” of all the spaceX sites in alaska. Post it up or shut up. I won’t be waiting, cuz there isn’t one. I’m still laughing about the satellites too.

I don't know what you built but put me in the I'll believe when I see it group. Not sure how it is a tin foil hat conspiracy to know that Musk over promises and under delivers (how's that Twitter take over going?). Anyway, for over a year now, I go on Starlink's website to see if I can get satellite internet through them. Every time I check, it is just a few months off. Just checked again, 1st Qtr 2023.

How much you want to bet that in November or December when I check again, it will be 2nd Qtr 2023 or later?

My son has had an Inreach for several years and we are very satisfied with it. He is communicating with me right now as he is goat hunting in Keani Fjords. I also have a PLB that although I can't text with it, it will send a distress signal from anywhere, and they will know who I am along with a list of my usual places and even boats I may be frequently on. Also will supply contact info for my family and other contacts.
