Oh the "barney" backpack on ebay was a bit much but I couldnt resist!! Thanks for not banning me!!

I only have one Alaskan hunting experience (living in San Antonio, Texas) under my belt to date, but that Cabela's backpack I bought to haul caribou worked well. I loaded it with hunting gear and placed it inside a canvas duffel bag and called it one piece of luggage for the trip North. For buying something out of a catalog it did the job. I would take it with me again no problem.

One note, I bought some bog shoes (plastic molded) that were about 1.5 feet long and 1 foot wide and that made more of a difference than the weight of the pack for those sloppy areas. I can't seem to find them in the catalog again, but those bog shoes kept me from sticking in that tundra muck (out of Iliamna). So whatever frame you pick, look into those bog shoes. They fit great over the hip waiders and weighed onces.

Mchale packs made by Dan Mchale is the best I've ever owned. There are some really good packs out there but these are in a league of their own.
